Genocide Comparison and Contrast Research Paper Requirements
Assignment Overview:
By yourself or with a partner, research the Holocaust and another genocide. Identify two points of
comparison and contrast, each, among the two genocides. Organize and construct a well-written, wellsupported research paper with a clear thesis, using MLA format.
Possible Genocides to Research in Addition to the Holocaust:
For this paper, you and your partner will have to compare and contrast the Holocaust with another
genocide. This means you will need resources on TWO genocides: the Holocaust plus another of your choice.
Choose from the list below to determine which second genocide you will research:




Cambodian Genocide
Rwandan Genocide
Armenian Genocide
Darfur Genocide
You are welcome to choose a topic outside of the suggested list. However, you must do the following: 1) get
the topic approved by me by showing me a few resources on the topic and explaining what it is about to me,
and 2) plan to do more research with less help because the librarians and I have not done as much
background research for you on these topics.
Source Requirements:


At least 4 reliable sources; these sources must ALL be referenced in your paper at least TWICE using
proper in-text citation
One source must be a PRINT source (physical paper source – book, magazine, newspaper,
encyclopedia, etc.)
Final Paper Requirements:



4 pages
MLA format* (this affects: page numbering / header, paper heading, title, margin width, in-text
citation, font, line-spacing)
MLA works cited page*
Due Dates:




notes, and organized notes plus thesis should ALL be brought to the conference)
 One week from your conference date: Final Paper (include your final Works Cited page) – your paper is due one
week from your conference date

Please note:


You must turn in your paper on the due date even if you are not here.
10% will be deducted from your score for every day the paper is turned in late.




10% will be deducted for every page under the page requirement; 5% for every half page. Going over
the requirement more than half a page will result in a 5% deduction; 10% for a page and a half
Plagiarism will lead to a zero on the final assignment. Plagiarism includes:
o Blatant copy-and-pasting of other people’s work in whole or in part
o Using another student’s paper in whole or in part
o Failing to cite sources for material in-text and/or on a works cited page
o Failing to paraphrase appropriately (using the exact or near wording of an original source,
even if it is cited, and trying to pass it off as your own wording)
