PRINCIPLES/STANDARDS ASSIGNMENT These assignments are given to insure you, the staff member, have the following: 1. A good grasp on principles of Christian growth and on principles that help determine right from wrong. 2. A clear, biblical understanding of your convictions. 3. A basic exposure to handling situations common among campers. Be thorough in your explanation but be concise. Your answers should be biblically accurate, practical, and easily understood. Do not use phrases like "this does not glorify God" unless you explain how something does not bring glory to God. Assignment I: A. List five principles a person should think through when trying to decide if an issue is right or wrong. (Example: Is this action or attitude forbidden by Scripture?) Write out at least one verse for each principle. B. List five principles you would give to a person who wants to grow spiritually. (Example: Read your Bible consistently.) Write out a verse for each principle. Assignment II: For your own benefit but also as a way to prepare you for counseling campers this summer, please answer the following questions. Please answer each question with at least a paragraph and write out at least two verses for each category. A. Dating - What are God's guidelines for dating relationships? (Please address the following in your answer: purpose of dating, parental involvement, and physical contact.) B. Sexuality- What are God’s guidelines for each of the following areas of sexuality? 1. Premarital Sex 2. Homosexuality 3. Extramarital Sex C. Thought Life – What are your personal standards in keeping your mind pure in the following areas: TV, DVDs, and Internet use? How would you help a camper struggling in these areas? D. Drugs/Alcohol – What are your standards? How would you help a camper in these areas? E. God’s Will - How do you guide someone to find God’s will for his life? F. Devotions – What practical tips could you give someone who desires a daily time in God’s Word? G. Assurance of Salvation – When someone wants to “get saved again” or is doubting his salvation, how would you help him? H. Friends – How do you know your choice of friends pleases God? What do you do if your choice of friends does not please God? I. Anger – How can you get victory over anger? Please discuss external anger and internal anger (bitterness). J. Authority – Why should someone submit to authority? In Scripture, list the authorities God commands us to obey. What are the possible consequences for disobeying God-given authorities? K. Music – List three principles you should apply in your selection of music. Please list two Scripture references per principle. L. Appearance – What biblical principles could be applied to a Christian's outward appearance? Also, explain how your appearance could affect campers in a positive or negative way. Please give an example of both.
