Health Integration Peer Program (HIPP): A series of classes that helps individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse challenges to understand the

“whole” health of the mind and body, including how to: communicate with medical professionals, establish sources of support for personal health and wellness, set and achieve goals to improve overall health and wellness, and become confident in health self-management skills. Attendees are welcome to participate at any point in the series. Attendance at a previous class is not necessary. See the calendar for the weekly topic.

Community & TASC Connections: Need help with linkage to community resources? Stop by and let the Wellness Center Staff link you with Mental Health,

Substance Use, Intellectual & Developmental Disability, Case Management or other community resources to help you manage your wellness.

Knit from the Heart : Learn the basics of knitting – no previous experience required! Knit your way to a low-cost, personalized gift from the heart for the holiday season. Registration required, as we provide the supplies.

Cards for Soldiers : Come make holiday cards to send to our soldiers to help cheer them up this holiday season.

Grief and Loss: The Process and Experience (Mara Apple): This training will provide an overview of the different types of grief (including “complicated grief”), describe how children grieve differently from adults, and provide guidance on how you can best support a grieving person of any age.

Lunch & Learn

“Hot Topics for Seniors”

Sponsored by DSS & Senior Center : Do you have questions regarding power of attorneys? Do you have questions regarding Medicaid coverage when in Nursing Home Care in North Carolina? If you are interested in these topics or any other consumer issues in NC, Please

Attend! Attorney Karen Malay from Allman, Spry, Leggett & Crumpler will be our speaker for this event and a deli-style lunch will be provided. We look forward to sharing lunch with you that day and becoming more informed about important legal issues that surround our State and Community. Please RSVP no later than Monday, December 7, 2015 by calling 336-593-2433 or emailing at kchildress@co.stokes.nc.us

.

Veteran Breakfast : During this holiday season, we want to take time to honor our veterans. Open to Veterans and their family and friends. Please register so we can get an accurate count for food.

Making Holiday Ornaments : This fun activity will allow you to leave with a new ornament you can use for your tree or as a gift. Please register so we can have adequate supplies on hand.

Lunch & Learn

“Identifying Signs, Symptoms, and Triggers of Substance Use”

(Tracey Warner): Some people are able to use recreational or prescription drugs without ever experiencing negative consequences or addiction. For many others, though, substance use can cause problems at work, home, school, and in relationships, leaving you feeling isolated, helpless, or ashamed. If you’re worried about your own or a friend or family member’s alcohol or drug use, it’s important to know that help is available. Learning about the nature of drug abuse and addiction—how it develops, what it looks like, and why it can have such a powerful hold—will give you a better understanding of the problem and how to best deal with it.

Please register to ensure we have enough food for everyone.

Lunch & Learn

“Developing a Wellnes Toolbox”

(Tracey Warner): The first step in developing your own Wellness Recovery Action Plan, is to develop a

Wellness Toolbox. This is a listing of things you have done in the past, or could do, to help yourself stay well, and things you could do to help yourself feel better when you are not doing well. You can use these “tools” to help maintain your personal wellness during the holidays. Please register to ensure we have enough food for everyone.

Holiday Songs, Stories & Cider : Bring your friends and family for fun holiday sing-alongs, story-telling, apple cider, and cookies. Please register.

Have a skill or business and want to teach it to others in the community? Please contact the Wellness Center staff to discuss how we can partner together.
