Game Design Document Page 7 Game Play Core Mechanics (20 points) You play as Stan, the local knight in the village where the story takes place. When Stan returns home he discovers his family has been attacked by a wizard! The wizard tells the knight that he has placed a sleeping spell on his family and that the only way to wake them up is to enter their dreams and rescue them. Each level takes place in one of his family member’s dreams and consists of different challenges. The first level pits Stan against several waves of enemy knights who have kidnapped his daughter. Stan must defeat all of the knights before he can reach his daughter and continue to the next level. The player will score points by defeating knights on this level. Stan defeats knights by shooting and hitting the enemies with his arrows. The next level places Stan inside a gigantic maze. The maze is filled with deadly traps that Stan must avoid. Stan must journey through the maze until he finds his son at the end. Once he finds his son, Stan will be able to continue on to the final level. On the last level Stan will confront the wizard that attacked his family. Stan must defeat the wizard while avoid the fireballs that the wizard throws at him. Once Stan defeats the wizard and saves his wife the player will win and the game will end. The player can defeat the wizard by hitting him ten times with Stan’s arrows. The player is given three lives at the beginning of the game. The player will lose a life if he runs into an enemy knight on the first level, hits a trap on the second level, or gets hits by one of the wizard’s fireballs on the final level. When Stan losses all three of his lives the player losses the game and it is game over. Game Design Document Page 8 World Design (10 points) Game World The main setting takes place in medieval times.
