Job Description JOB TITLE: SALARY RANGE: LOCATION: Arts and Culture Programmer (Cultural and Arts Appreciation Programming) £XXXX (depending on skills and experience)pro rata + 5% pension contribution London, NW3 (occasional travel required) REPORTING TO: Head of Arts and Culture ANNUAL LEAVE: 20 days plus statutory and Jewish holidays (pro rata) NB this is a part time role – 2 days per week. MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE: Working as part of JW3’s Programme Team and reporting directly to the Head of Arts and Culture, you will develop and deliver a creative, engaging and diverse year-round programme of high-quality cultural events and activities, for a wide range of audience types in order to help fulfil JW3’s Vision and Mission. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: 1. Development and Delivery of Programme Work with colleagues to plan and deliver a year-round, diverse, full programme of cultural activities including talks and events related to the appreciation of the arts as well as walks and cultural visits outside of JW3 events, activities, festivals, projects, groups, classes and opportunities of the highest quality, across the Centre, catering for the needs of the Centre’s users. Develop and be responsible for the delivery of an agreed number of JW3 original, innovative and unique cultural programmes and high profile events in the context of the overall programme that reflect the Centre’s vision, values and ambition. These will include flagship programmes that will further enhance the Centre’s reputation. Be present at key events, courses, lectures, events and activities that you have planned, including occasional teaching/presenting/facilitating where appropriate. Ensure that all activities are run in a safe and responsible way. This may involve risk assessment for activities and events and ensuring that they comply with any relevant JW3 policies, e.g. safeguarding, health and safety etc Work with all JW3 programmers to contribute to wider programming in cross area projects 2. Programme Partners and Providers Work with existing partner organisations, generating collegial and vibrant frameworks for the development of appropriate events and activities. Implement any relevant partnership agreements. Work with all the Programme Heads and Programming Director to identify, develop, negotiate and manage appropriate new programme partnerships and agreements for current and future activities. Manage the relationships with relevant ‘programme providers’ e.g. speakers, performers, artists, teachers, facilitators, instructors etc. Help to establish JW3 as a desirable addition to the ‘circuit’ for relevant providers and practitioners. 3. Finance/Budgets Where appropriate, negotiate financial arrangements with Partners and Providers, within the guidelines set by the Programming Director, and ensure they work to agreed financial parameters. 4. Audience Development and Engagement Work with the wider Arts & Culture Programming Team to build appropriate relationships with our audiences and grow their loyalty and affiliation. Promote the JW3 programme to our existing and potential audiences. Implement effective feedback and evaluation processes to engage participants of JW3 activities and improve what we offer. Support the Programme Heads and Director of Programming in devising approaches to seeking out new audiences. 5. Liaison with JW3 Colleagues Programming Team: work collaboratively as part of a wider Programming Team in order to maximise the potential of our human resources to achieve JW3’s goals. Building Manager: ensure that all programme information is confirmed in advance so that matters relating to layout of spaces, cleaning, security, catering, technical support, equipment requirements, etc. are properly managed. Director of Finance: supply all relevant financial, contractual and other data as requested by Programming Director or Programme Heads. Marketing: work collaboratively as part of a wider team in order to maximize audience attendance Box office: ensure that all cultural programme information is confirmed in advance to ensure good audience experience 6. Promoting and Representing JW3 Protect and enhance the reputation of JW3, presenting the organisation in an appropriate and professional manner to stakeholders. Act as an advocate for the impact of JW3’s work where appropriate. Build appropriate relationships with relevant organisations to raise JW3’s positive profile. 7. Other Responsibilities Attend all relevant staff meetings, supervisions, etc. Act as an ambassador/point of contact in the JW3 office – answering the telephone, welcoming guests as needed. Undertake other reasonable duties as required by your line manager or member of the Senior Staff Team. PERSON SPECIFICATION All staff must wholeheartedly buy into JW3’s mission, vision, values and guiding principles. A belief in the importance of inclusivity and working cross-communally, and a commitment to high quality Jewish engagement, arts and culture, and community-building is critical. Essential Experience Have an appropriate understanding of and experience within both the London and the Jewish cultural scene. Have a broad understanding of the Jewish calendar and relevant anniversaries that could translate into cultural events. Have the vision and ability to programme one off events as well as a series of themed events Have an understanding on how we can use different cultural mediums to achieve the objectives and vision of the Centre. Good track record of planning and delivering cultural programmes for relevant target groups in a cultural or community organisation/context (e.g. an arts centre or festival, community centre, gallery,museum etc). Successfully working under pressure, with multiple demands and in a changing environment. Successful management of programme or project budgets. Building, developing and maintaining effective relationships with organisations or individual providers (e.g. educators, workshop facilitators, etc). An appreciation of, and passion for, Jewish arts, culture, literature etc. Desirable Experience Experience of successful community Centres – having been an active, involved member, instructor/teacher, and/or staff member. Event management. Experience working in a day care centre, community centre or cultural centre Experience working with a wide range of audience types, eg early-retirees, adults with learning and/or physical disabilities, the elderly, etc . Working with volunteers. Having built good relationships and connections with practitioners and teachers within the cultural world that can be leveraged for the benefit of JW3. Skills and Knowledge Good knowledge and understanding of comparable institutions, arts and culture programmes or projects that work with JW3’s specific target groups. Effective team-working and collaboration skills - ability to work with team of colleagues in a collaborative way in an environment where work is shared in order to meet tight deadlines. Organisation - high level planning and organising skills in order to produce plans, and work on multiple projects simultaneously. IT - solid level of IT competency, including demonstrable effective use of Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases to maximise efficiency. Empathy and social skills - in order to understand the perspective of others, respond to needs and expectations and build effective working relationships, eg with partner organisations, programme providers, colleagues etc. Influence - effective negotiating, influencing and persuasion skills at an appropriate level. Communication – excellent verbal and written communications skills. Able to build networks, articulate the vision and mission of JW3, and excel in communicating with the public, colleagues and stakeholders. Self-direction - ability to work on own initiative and without direction. Ability to structure own time, use initiative, prioritise effectively to deliver on the key goals set by the CEO, Director of Programming and Board. Creativity and innovation - intellectual ability to think analytically and seek creative solutions to problems. NB, to serve the needs of a community centre that operates 15 hours per day for 6-7 days per week, Programmer roles are not 9-5 office roles. Has a natural ability to network effectively and form positive relationships. Has passion, drive, commitment and integrity.
