TELEVISION MANAGER SCHEDULING: SABC 1 [Scale code 130] MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION The main purpose of the position of Bouquet Scheduling Manager is to ensure a commercially viable schedule for the channels that comply with the SABC and TV Broadcasting mandate, enhances audience/market share and maximises revenue KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Strategise and plan programme schedule ensuring that channel schedules are optimally complimentary Plan and manage the channel’s schedule, ensuring alignment with target audience in accordance with channel’s positioning and vision Monitor audience patterns and their competitive environment to plan and develop schedules that will optimise the channel’s competitive stance and increase audience share and revenue Set-up, monitor and manage cost effective utilisation of programme budget Monitor programme income and ensure that SABC schedule is commercially viable Monitor weekly performance of programmes and manage schedules in order to increase audience share and ratings Ensure that pre-planned promo campaigns are implemented in accordance with imaging and marketing plans Monitor and ensure compliance of schedule to the Broadcast Act, IBA/ICASA regulations and SABC mandate requirements Ensure that scheduling/TX scheduling and Programme Acceptance Departments function productively and effectively Liaise with the Acquisitions and Traffic departments according to service level agreements Serve as a member of the Disaster Recovery team Direct, manage, motivate and develop scheduling staff Manage daily outputs of schedulers Liaise with the Marketing and Operations teams Help identify acquisition needs, as well as manage stock levels ensuring reduction of impairments Create/Manage all program formats working closely with Ad Sales, Traffic, Producers Serve as initial contact for daily internal program, schedule and format issues from other departments. Ensure work-flow processes between Programming and other departments occur as planned. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Relevant degree, diploma or equivalent 4 - 5 years broadcasting/television experience Experience/Background in research would be ideal and ability to analyze audience movements Ability to act on input from research and understand broadcast trends Management experience Strategic leadership Ability to lead and manage an effective scheduling team Media and regulatory knowledge Solid understanding of sound business principles – commercial orientation The ability to initiate and drive as well as organise, plan and control is critical to ensure the smooth operation of both the macro and micro-scheduling process A keen sense of deadlines is essential Be a good communicator and motivator in order to manage the staff through the complex, interrelated processes and deadlines Knowledge of computer systems used to manage the scheduling process is desirable and SAP knowledge would be an added advantage PC literacy is essential (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Ability to work in a team Self-efficacy Preference will be given, but not limited to, candidates from designated groups in terms of the Employment Equity Act and the SABC’s Employment Equity initiatives.
