You are required to be available throughout the year. There are several alternative placement blocks for each unit and students can be allocated to any one of these blocks. Clinical Calendars are available to view under tab student information on the School of Nursing and Midwifery website http://www.med.monash.edu.au/nursing/current.html Clinical Calendars are also available to view on the Clinical Information Moodle site. You can access this site from your My.Monash Portal. Clinical placements are sourced and allocated in line with the learning outcomes of the course. This will mean travelling to both metropolitan and regional areas of Victoria. Please ensure you take the time to view the clinical calendars and ensure NO holidays are booked during any of the scheduled clinical placement dates. Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery students: You can expect to receive your clinical placement allocation via your student email 4-6 weeks before the first placement block. However you will not be notified of your placement until submission of your mandatory documentation which includes your police check (Fit to Work), completed immunisation forms including serology, and Working with Children Check. Master of Nursing Practice students: You can expect to receive your clinical placement allocation via your student email during the first few weeks of semester. However you will not be notified of your placement until submission of your mandatory documentation which includes your police check (Fit to Work), completed immunisation forms including serology, and Working with Children Check. Page 3 of 8 Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Information Pack (V3) 2016 Moodle There is a specific clinical site on Moodle that contains all information relating to clinical placement. You need to be become very familiar with this site. Moodle can be accessed through your My.Monash Portal once you have enrolled in your clinical unit. The clinical office will utilise Moodle to provide all clinical placement information to you such as: Venue specific information and instructions Pre-Placement mandatory requirements information Student rosters/ward allocations (where provided in advance by the healthcare provider) Links to policies and procedures Clinical calendars Discussion boards for student communication relating to clinical matters Moodle is regularly updated with the most current information. Please ensure you frequently check your Moodle site and student email account for updated important clinical placement information. Your placement information can change at short notice. Pre-Placement Mandatory Requirements To be eligible to receive your clinical placement allocation you must first meet all pre-placement mandatory requirements: 1. Current Fit2Work Police Check 2. Up to date Immunisations and provision of serology 3. Current Working with Children Check 4. You must upload scanned copies of these documents to the Student Placement System (InPlace). Please note: Your clinical placement allocation will be withheld if you fail to comply with the deadlines and this will impact your progress through the course. Page 4 of 8 Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Information Pack (V3) 2016 FIT2Work Police Check Every year that you attend clinical placement you are required to complete a Police Check. Your police check must be processed in the same year that you attend placement, so it is imperative that you follow the instructions below and submit your Fit2Work Police Check by the specified deadline. Fit2Work Police Check Instructions 1. You should expect to receive a Fit2Work Police Check invitation email (to your student email account) once you have completed the enrolment session. 2. Open the Fit2Work link within your email, read the consent and Click Yes to continue. 3. Before you start you will need to have copies of your 100 points of ID certified (read the Application Process document which is included in the email for further information) 3.1. Enter your personal and residential details 3.2. Complete the additional details section. This is where you will also scan and attach your certified documents (100 points in total) at the relevant section 3.3. Make sure the scanned forms are not more than 5MB in size 3.4. Click continue 4. Check your information, read the consent section, click Yes to agree to the consent and then click Pay for the Check. 5. You will be required to pay the fee of $19.90 + GST ($21.89) for your check. Fit2Work will accept payment via PayPal or credit card. (Your Check cannot be processed without payment). Enter your payment details and click Pay. 6. Once you have agreed to the consent and uploaded 100 points of certified identification, and paid for your check, your online application will be assessed by the Fit2Work team to ensure you have supplied all required documentation. 7. Once your application has been processed, a confirmation letter will be emailed to your student email account, followed by your National Police History Check Report document. Please ensure you save and print this Report document. Page 5 of 8 Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Information Pack (V3) 2016 Immunisations You must comply with procedures to minimise the risk of cross-infection of communicable diseases during your course of training. It is mandatory requirement of the University and all clinical venues. No clinical venues will accept students who are not fully vaccinated. Compliance with these procedures can take months to complete – particularly immunisations. So once you have accepted a place in the course, we recommend that you start the process immediately in readiness for clinical placements. Please see the below link for more information and all the required immunisation forms. If you hold a current working with children check, please present your card to the clinical office. If you do not hold a current working with children check, please complete a working with children check application on line which can be accessed via the following link: http://www.med.monash.edu.au/current/wwc-check.html Your Working with Children Check will be mailed to you. Please note: Once lodged “Working with Children Checks” can take 6 weeks to process and can only be lodged in Australia with an Australian address. You need to apply for this in a timely manner When completing your on-line application: Please use Occupational Work Code “58 Paediatric Wards of Public or Private Hospitals” Page 7 of 8 Nursing and Midwifery Clinical Information Pack (V3) 2016 Uniform Requirements All students are required to wear a Monash University polo shirt with “Nursing” embroidered on the sleeve while on clinical placement. There are strict guidelines regarding Uniform requirements. Please refer to the uniform policy in the Placement Guidelines included in this pack. Please order your shirt as soon as possible as it may take up to 6 weeks for delivery. The Monash Shop also has nurse’s pouches and stethoscopes available for purchase. We recommend the purchase of 2 shirts.
