Nickolai D. Nickolov
This is research into discovering a dialogue between voices and musical
instruments, songs and music performance, visuals and live enactment. In
a mode of musical performance, tales are recalled, sung, spoken and
enacted. Tracing musical traditions linked to 'home', the performers
follow their collective and associative impulses, reflecting and re-creating
via a performance act.
Sourcing Within
Initiated by Ang Gey Pin, Sourcing Within has created and interconnected a network of multi-cultural artists with extensive international
collaborations.
These performing artists with diverse backgrounds from Europe, North &
South America and Asia, look for practical research and exchanges of
knowledge and crafts via intensive work contexts, a performative
investigation leading to understanding of techniques and crafts relating
to Performing Arts.
Ang Gey Pin (Singapore)
Actress /Director /Pedagogue
Ang Gey Pin began her theatre practice in Singapore and has graduated
from the University of Hawaii in Theatre. Her research draws from the
performative elements of her cultural tradition and bodily practice
largely based on Taijiquan.
Ang has worked within Project The Bridge: developing theatre arts, of
the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards, Italy. Since
2006, Ang has been teaching in various institutions and via Sourcing
Within worksessions, in Europe, North & South America and Asia. She
has directed and collaborated with performing artists of diverse cultural
and disciplinary backgrounds. Some of her creative works include: Feast
of You Shen (2007-2009), Wandering.Birds (2010-2011) and Hunger
Songs (2013). She is currently a practice as research PhD student at the
University of Kent, U.K.
Nickolai D. Nickolov (Bulgaria)
Musician
The works of Nickolai D. Nickolov explore the intersection of improvised,
jazz, ethnic and electronic music, as well as sound installation and multimedia. He has collaborated with Sourcing Within for all its performances
in Europe, South America and Asia. With Limitrophy Theatre, a
performative experimental group in which Nickolov was the composer and
sound designer, he has presented works at Santarcangelo Theatre
Festival, Fabrica Europa Festival, Festival delle Colline Torinesi. On his
own musical explorations, he has performed in diverse concerts with
musicians from Bulgaria, Italy, Norway, Singapore, U.K, U.S.A. He is
currently in the Electronic Music program at the Conservatory of Music
“Luigi Cherubini”, Florence, Italy.
