The Family of George Brown George Brown of Berkshire, England, came to Australia in 1846. He married Anne Wood of Northhamtonshire at St. James, Church of England, Melbourne in 1849. They lived in the Heidleberg-Bulleen district where six sons were born: William, Henry, George, John James (lived for only 1 year), John and Joseph. George, Ann and sons moved to the Woodend district where their only daughter Ann was born at Trentham in 1862: next to Macedon where they milked cows, and had a slab and bark house. In 1869 the moved to Golburn Valley. George selected a block at the corner of Goulburn Valley Highway and Union Road, Arcadia. With the help of his sons he cleared the block, planted crops and milked cows. George and Ann retired to Orr Street, Shepparton, Victoria. They both passed away in 1890 and are buried in Kialla West Cemetery. William married Sarah Searle, lived for some time in Shepparton then to a farm at Dunbulbalane. They had four children: William married Patience Eddy; Walter married Dorothy Walker; Elizabeth married James Lawerence; George married Irene Lynch. Henry died in 1912 unmarried George married Jessie Thomson in 1890. She had been a governess at Cashel near Dookie. They married at Geelong by the Rev. Thomson, an uncle of Jessie. Their farm was on the north side of Union Road east of Central Kialla Road. They had three children. George and Jessie retired to Stewart Street, Shepparton. George passed away in 1933 and is buried at the Shepparton Cemetery. Albert married Kathleen Waters, he worked he worked for the railways. In 1922 he was station master at Winchelsea then Surrey Hills. Alan married Edith Clark. He worked at the Post Office in Melbourne Doris married Tom Jones. They had a shop at the corner of High and Maude Street, Shepparton. Doris was born in 1898 is in a nursing home in Sydney and will celebrate her 100th Birthday in August. She died in November. John married Edith McDonald of Strathbogie in 1882 and moved to a farm at the corner of Karramomous and Wilson Road, Arcadia. They had three Children ; John and Edith retired to ANZAC Avenue, Shepparton. They celebrated their Golden Wedding in 1932. John died in 1933 and is buried in the Shepparton Cemetery. Annie married James Searson and lived in Camberwell: George married Maggie Cuthbert of Avenel and moved to Birriva, NSW William married Eleanor Kerr of Arcadia Homestead, Kialla West. After a few years they moved from this district to Lockhart, NSW. Joseph died in 1890 of Typhoid Fever at Drouin and is buried in the Dourin Cemetery. Ann married James Davis in 1886 at St. Matthais Church in Richmond. They lived at Dulbulbalane, then moved to a larger farm in Naringaningalook in 1910. They had four children; Charlotte James married Tot Butler Edith married William Donald Myrtle married John Williams. After the death of James, Ann and her daughter Charlotte moved to Stewart Street, Shepparton. Ann ded aged 92 and is buried at Katamatite. Great Grandchildren of George and Ann Brown still living in this district are Ella Sinclair, Dorothy Brisbane, Hazel Donald and Glenys Carroll; also some of the next three generations.
