Human Rights/Advocacy
Many students and alumnae are committed to making a difference in the world; human rights/advocacy is
a career goal that is often pursued by Wellesley students and alumnae. Broad in scope, human rights
issues can be international or local in scope, and address a variety of topics, including, but not limited to
the following: poverty, gender discrimination, war crimes, hunger, children’s issues, and racial/ethnic
discrimination. Entry-level positions are often administrative in nature, e.g. organizing events; they may
also involve grassroots organizing, e.g. door-to-door campaigning. In order to develop or oversee
programs within human rights/advocacy organizations, a minimum of master’s degree is typically
required.
