AP BIOLOGY SUMMER ASSIGNMENT 2015 The AP Biology curriculum is extensive, this assignment is intended to serve as a “warm-up” exercise for the study of life. This will save us precious time next school year. There is no better place to observe living organisms than outside. You will be assessed based on your knowledge of your organisms. Through your handed in, written work on day one of school. This will be the beginning of our first unit of study on Ecology. All written work should be typed to receive full credit. GO CATCH A FISH Your summer assignment is to go fishing anywhere. Catch a fish and take a picture of yourself with the fish before you release it unharmed. Identify the species of fish (scientific name= genus and species) Determine 6 other species of organisms (plant, animal, other) that are present in the environment where you caught the fish. Identify and research the biology** of each of the 6 organisms Describe in detail how each of these organisms interact with each other in the ecosystem using ecological terminology found in the Chapter 52 &53 power point found on your teacher’s website. o Ex: an oak tree provides food for the insects that fall into the water that are eaten by the sunfish that are eaten by the bass **Include in your Biological description the following: -The biological classification of each organism. -At least 2 distinguishing adaptations. -Each organisms niche (how it makes a living in the ecosystem). -One symbiotic relationship for each organism (parasitism, commensalism, mutualism, predation) Visit our websites for an electronic version of this assignment and to view the Power-point for Chapters 52 & 53 to help you learn some ecological principles to use for this assignment and prepare for the start of our school year.
