Detector
A tool that measures the
presence of Carbon
Monoxide, a toxic,
odorless, hazardous gas
that is produced by
combustion devices such
as a gas stove, water
heater, dryer or furnace,
charcoal grill, snow
machines and cars

 Have heating system (including
chimneys), water heater and
any other gas, oil, wood or coal
burning appliances serviced
annually by a qualified
technician
 Install a battery operated or
battery backup CO detector in
your home, locate close to the
bedrooms and check battery
monthly. Replace detector
every 5 years.
 If the detector sounds, leave
your home immediately and call
911
 Do seek prompt medical
attention if you suspect CO
poisoning if you experience
dizziness, light headedness, or
nausea
 Never use a generator, charcoal
grill, camp stove or other fuel
burning device inside the home
 Don’t idle a car, truck, snow
machine or motorcycle inside a
garage attached to the home
 Never use an unvented stove in
the home
 Never heat your home using a
gas oven
