A message from the Director’ Hi Families, Just a quick update from Lyndsay and myself in the office. Enrolments for next year are coming in thick and fast which is great. We will be looking at placing everyone in the next few weeks and will send out confirmation of days when this is done. Please remember if you have chosen to change days next year this will depend on availability. We do try to cater for everyone as best as we can so let’s hope the puzzle works out We are pleased to inform you all that we have a new Educator starting in the Koalas room as of Monday 21st September. Her name is Madeline (Maddy) Phillips. Maddy has a Certificate 3 in Early Childhood Education and Care and will be signing up to do her Diploma. We would also like to congratulate Praveena for completing her Diploma and Pierre for completing her Cert 3. Well done ladies. The upcoming months should see many more of our educators completing their qualifications as well. Sadly we say goodbye to Vanessa on September 25th as she enters back into the School system as a support worker. We will all miss Vanessa but we wish her all the best. Lastly I would like to remind everyone to regularly check your calendars for important upcoming event and dates. I have had many people emailing to ask about our shut down dates for example, which are in your calendars Cheers, Jess and Lyndsay Possum’s August Newsletter During the month of August we have celebrated both Jeans for genes day and Book Week. For the week of book week we had two families come in and share their child’s favourite stories with the group of children. Thank you to Alec Brown and Janine Hugo for sparing time out of your day to do so. Alec Brown and Marshall’s two brothers named Henry and Elliott brought in Marshall’s favourite story named ‘Max Monster’. The book had some googly eyes poking out of it which the children thought were funny. The children were all very fascinated and engaged in the experience. (Biscuits also helped to keep them content, ha ha ha!!!) Janine Hugo brought in one of Hanno’s favourite stories to share. The story was named ‘Noah’s Ark’ or ‘Nag se Ark’ in Afrikaans. Hanno and his family are South African so it was a lovely touch to see some of their culture in action. Janine read the story in both English and Afrikaans to the children. The children were very fascinated in the story and intrigued by the way the story sounded in another beautiful language. If any families also speak another language or are from a different cultural background we would LOVE to have you come and visit the babies for a small experience for them to engage in! We have also farewelled our good friend Mia who has gone for an overseas holiday to Europe with her family. Mia will be gone just over a month and will return during September. Mia’s family have sent us photos of her holiday so far which we have laminated and displayed in the room, the children seem to be getting a kick out of seeing them and are very intrigued. The children especially love the photo of Mia with a large Pretzel! We look forward to what the month of September may hold. Thankyou- Possums Team Danielle, Anna, Hema, Yvette & Melissa. August Newsletter 2015 Dear Wombat Families, Firstly we would like to say a big thank you to Joanne who has come into our room to replace Teena in her absence. Teena is recovering well and looks forward to returning in October. The children have warmed very quickly to Joanne and she adores the children We also welcome new friends, Arthur, Oliver, Morgan, Isobel and Sophie. B. The most exciting thing for the Wombats room is still definitely our new playground. The children have been provided with such a beautiful, peaceful yet challenging new outdoor area. The warm weather is coming our way and we are making the most of the warmer days with picnic morning and afternoon teas on the deck. Just a reminder that a labelled bucket sunhat for your child is a MUST every day. If you have a specific sunscreen please supply this also. The Wombats have engaged in a few cooking experiences, making cakes is popular, as well as play dough, of course mess is so much fun for us! We continue to enjoy spending lots of our indoor time dancing, singing and reading lots of books with our educators. We have little conversations with your children now and it’s adorable. We appreciate all the parent feedback regarding their children’s expanding knowledge and development as we continue to follow the interests of the children. Please remember that we encourage your input too, so get writing in the sharing journal on the sign in desk Alex, Joanne, Mina, Tahasin & Melissa Sugar Gliders Newsletter August Hello Parents, August has been a very exciting month for the sugar gliders and the wombat’s rooms. The playground has been completed!! Yippee…All the staff spent lots of time deciding what areas and activities could be included. The main things that we wanted to incorporate into the playground were natural areas which were inspired by the children’s interests. The children love being outside and are really enjoying investigating all the new areas. The bike track is a huge hit, even though we are still teaching them that the track is for bikes and not everywhere else. The outside art area seem ta always have children painting or drawing on the chalkboards. If anyone would like to come and see our new playground please do. We would like to thank Mick and Jess for doing such a job and of courses thank you to Max’s dad, David for donating the pipes. Let the fun continue This month we have changed our room around. We have seen a huge interest in the home corner, so we have tried to make it more spacious for the children. We have created new areas such as the puzzle area which we have used one of the big tables. During breaks and lunch some of the children are choosing to sit at this table. The one are that has had a lot of attention is the art area. We have an easel, which the children can do painting or gluing at. Also, this week we have introduced the light board where the children have been able to discover lots of different objects and colours. We have even had a hairdressing area, which the children loved; we may have some future hairstylists among us We have still been going to the park and hope to have a sausage sizzle next week with the Joeys room. On our way back from the park we always collect sticks, leaves and stones. We have slowly been trying to incorporate these natural materials into the room. Here you can see Benjamin enjoying his first trip to the park Thank You to all the parents who came in to read a book to the sugar gliders children, and to the children who brought in books for the staff to read. Have a look at some of the photos below. The children did a great job sitting down to listen to the stories even Georgia had a turn reading the story for all the children We also created a poster which is on the wall outside our room. This includes pictures that were taken throughout the week. On the 7th of September at 3pm we are hosting a Father’s Day afternoon tea. Please feel free to invite grandpa’s along. On the 17th of September we have our cooking day. So remember no lunches required. Please ensure your child has a broad brimmed hat for outside as the weather starts to get warmer We want to wish the Father’s a happy Father’s Day and we hope you like the gifts the children have created Koalas Newsletter August 2015 Dear Parents! Joey’s Newsletter – August, 2015 Book Week – 24th to 28th August, 2015: This was an exciting week as ten parents took time off their busy schedule to come in and read a story to the Joeys. This has enhanced the children’s love for stories, as they requested that the story be read again or insisted on another story being read. We wish to thank these parents for their contribution for Book Week. The children also were excited and came dressed up in different characters. The parents had children dress up in different characters every day of book week. Thanks once again to the parents for their encouragement, as this made the children very happy and important in their dress ups. Maraca making: The Joeys enjoyed a session of music singing to the accompaniment of musical instruments. They were happy to make a musical instrument and so decided on making a maraca. We used two polystyrene cups which the children painted and, putting some rice in one cup, we attached both the cups together by using masking tape. The children used these as shakers when dancing. Cooking The children enjoyed the cooking session when they made Anzac bars. They got to mix the dough and followed the whole process from beginning to end. Once it was baked the children could not resist asking for more as it was so delicious. Tracey did a good job at this activity. Father’s Day: We will be celebrating Father’s Day on Sunday, the 6th September, 2015. The Joeys have decided to make photo frames for their dads. We used paddle pop sticks for this activity. Children got to paint the frame and decorate it using sequins. A photo of the child is also affixed on this frame. The children are excited and cannot wait to give it to their dads. Vanessa worked hard at this activity and encouraged the children to make their Father’s Day gift very attractive as well.
