Boitsfort HIPPODROME (HdB) DROH!ME Environmental Charter The Boitsfort Hippodrome Environmental Charter aims to define the undertakings made by all partners who are active on the site. It is an integral part of the partnership agreement. ENVIRONMENTAL CHARTER OF THE HdB – DROH!ME SITE Article 1: Definition of aims Respectfully maintaining the environment naturally prolongs environmental quality efforts made at the time of the conversion works or during daily activities. As any activity will give rise to nuisances for the neighbouring environment, the concern of the environmental charter is to minimise these nuisances for the benefit of the environment and the comfort of local residents. While remaining compatible with requirements linked to professional practices, the aims of this charter are: - To minimise risks and nuisances to local residents To minimise risks to staff and visitors' health To ensure cleanliness of the site and its surroundings To minimise the amount of waste To conserve water resources To ensure protection of flora To ensure protection of fauna Page 1 Article 2: Terms Article 2.1: Terms of implementation The environmental charter is a contractual market document which shall be given to partners managing the site. This charter must imperatively be communicated to all staff working on site (including subcontractors, suppliers, etc.). CBC BE54 7320 3259 6697 Article 2.2: Responsibilities A partner shall be held responsible in the event the he does not follow the recommendations of this charter; in the event of non-compliance with any one of these conditions, any potential rehabilitation costs shall be borne by the partner. Article 3: Monitoring and follow-up of the procedures An "environment" manager shall be appointed by the partner. He will organise information and awareness rising amongst the company staff and all potential external staff (including sub-contractors, suppliers, delivery staff, etc.). He will monitor the commitments included in the environmental charter, ensuring that authorised sound levels are not exceeded, waste sorting is carried out properly, and fauna and flora are respected. Article 4: Compliance with regulations The partner shall ensure that applicable regulations are complied with. For instance, the site is subject to NATURA 2000 regulations (see www.ibgebim.be). Article 5: Waste management, collection and processing Article 5.1: Waste The partner shall ensure management of separate collections for all waste resulting from his activity. He shall reduce waste production through rational use of products. At the time of purchase of products, preference shall be given to products which generate less waste and/or less harmful waste, for instance by entering into take back obligations for any purchase for which this may apply. Page 2 Article 5.2: Energy The partner shall ensure that he controls and progressively reduces electricity consumption through more rational use, regular technical maintenance, purchase of energy-saving equipment, etc. Where possible, he shall make use of alternative and/or renewable energies. CBC BE54 7320 3259 6697 Article 6: Conservation of water resources Article 6.1: Watering and saving water In order to conserve water resources, watering shall be conducted in compliance with the following recommendations: - Use material which is in good condition to avoid leaks Use an anti-splash nozzle on the hose pipe Article 6.2: Limiting pollution The use of certain products can be at the root of surface water or ground water pollution: anything which is not taken in by the plants is further carried by the rain. It is also required that input be limited. Article 7: Protection of local fauna and flora Green spaces represent a considerable vegetation density, and some animals may be present in the areas in question. Therefore, great care is required regarding plants and making sure to behave in a manner that does not harm or endanger any animals on the site. Article 7.1: Protection of flora No damage should affect existing vegetation. It is strictly forbidden to cut down any tree and/or bush or to uproot any vegetation. Page 3 Article 7.2: Protection of fauna It is required that no local fauna be harmed in any way. Any behaviour which could endanger the local fauna is forbidden and activities shall be conducted in such a way that any potential nuisances are minimised. Specifically, the partners shall ensure that they do not leave behind any waste which could be ingested by the animals or could pollute their environment.
