Emma Jane Lindsay
Emma Lindsay graduated with a BA honor’s in Architectural Glass from Edinburgh College of
Art in 2007. Glass Painting is a crucial element in her work and all the imagery she uses
comes from original drawings and paintings. In 2008 Emma was a recipient of the Ashton
Hill Award which allowed her to undertake a placement in stained glass restoration at
Chapel Studio in Kings Langley where she worked on a project to restore the stained glass of
Horace Walpole’s gothic mansion.
Since then she has taken part in masterclasses with renowned glass artists Judith Scharacter
at Northlands Glass in 2007 and Narcissus Quagliata at Pilchuck Glass School in 2012.
Emma spent eight months in 2011 working as a craft apprentice with The Princes
Foundation for Building Community where she studied many aspects of traditional
architecture and holistic approaches to design. As one of 10 apprentices with different
specialties she designed and made a bespoke glass window for a traditionally built bird hide
in Wales and also designed and made arts and craft inspired leaded lights for The Princes
Arts and Craft Eco Home at the Ideal Home Show 2012.
Emma has won a number of awards for her work including The McCarrison Society Art Prize
and a competition to design a new stained glass window for Canterbury Cathedral which
was installed in June 2014.
Emma Lindsay is currently a member of Glasgow Glass Studio where she has been based
since 2009. She undertakes a wide variety of public and private commissions, predominately
stained glass.
