Jiu Jitsu I PE 1832 and Jiu Jitsu II PE 2832 Course Philosophy and Instructor Requirements Philosophy: This course is designed to teach basic self-defense techniques and an understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Learning Outcomes: Assessment should measure communication, critical thinking, and appropriate social science research skills, as well as student awareness of self and society and knowledge of factual content. Instructor Objectives: The instructor’s teaching techniques should ensure that the students will be able to: Demonstrate techniques of self-defense Demonstrate knowledge of history and tradition of Jiu Jitsu Demonstrate understanding of fitness in a healthy lifestyle Demonstrate principles of coordination and balance Course Teaching Requirements: The following should be adhered to by all instructors teaching this course in the traditional setting: Quiz 1 (white belt 1st stripe) Quiz 2 (white belt 2nd stripe) Quiz 3 (white belt 3rd stripe) Quiz 4 (white belt 4th stripe) Test for orange belt (mid term) Quiz 5 (orange belt 1st stripe) Quiz 6 (orange belt 2nd stripe) Quiz 7 (orange belt 3rd stripe) Quiz 8 (orange belt 4th stripe) Test for orange/green belt (final) Participation 5% 5% 5% 5% 20% 5% 5% 5% 5% 20% 20% 100% Assessment Responsibilities: Instructors teaching this course will be expected to participate in assessment activities as dictated by the division.
