freshman year) and is a candidate for Sylvania Southview’s National Honor Society. This student has listed
your organization as one of his/her extracurricular activities.
In order to complete the selection process, the National Honor Society Faculty Council is requesting that
candidates obtain verification of their non-school related activity involvement.
It would be very much appreciated if you would write a brief note on the letterhead stationary of your
organization confirming the candidate’s participation. Comments relating to the student’s leadership
qualities, willingness to accept and follow through with responsibility, and service to the community or
organization are particularly appropriate. This need not be lengthy and can be accomplished with summary
sentences.
An invitation to membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed
upon a high school student. Please be assured that your comments will play an important role in Faculty
Council’s selection process.
Please either give your letter of recommendation to the candidate or send it via email to me at

It is important that your comments be received no later than April 24th, so that we may complete our
selection process.

Southview High School National Honor Society
Leadership Essay
One of the criteria for admission to National Honor Society is leadership. Please write an essay
answering, “What makes you a leader?” These experiences need not be confined to those completed
at Southview. Possible topics to discuss could include, “What do you do in class to exemplify
leadership? Or, “In leadership positions you have held, how have you shown leadership?” Your essay
must be typed and professional looking, with no misspellings and/or grammatical errors.
