2014 National Conference & Exhibition Scholarship
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is pleased to announce that through the
generosity of the AAP Section on Administration and Practice Management (SOAPM), three
$1,000 scholarships will be available for Medical Students, Residents, and Fellowship
Trainees to attend the AAP National Conference and Exhibition (NCE) this October in San
Diego, CA. There are a total of three (3) $1,000 scholarships available (1 for Medical
Students; 1 for Residents; 1 for Fellowship Trainees).
BACKGROUND
Historically there has been little or no preparation in residency programs on the business
aspects of pediatric practice. To enhance existing efforts to educate young physicians on
key practice management issues, SOAPM will offer scholarships to residents, medical
students and fellowship trainees who have an interest in practice management to attend
the 2014 AAP National Conference & Exhibition.

Scholarship Recipient Requirements
Scholarship recipients are required to attend the Section on Administration and Practice
Management Program (Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 8:00 am – 12:15 pm) at the 2014
NCE. In addition, recipients must attend at least 2-3 practice management-related sessions
(see attached). If chosen to receive a scholarship, you will be required to apply the
information you received at the session(s) you attend by participating in an activity of your
choosing. Your activity and a written report must be completed by December 19, 2014.
2014 NCE Registration, Hotels, and Travel Information
Registration, housing and other meeting details can be accessed on the Academy’s Website
at the following link: http://www.aapexperience.org. AAP residents, medical students and
trainees must register and make their travel and housing arrangements as soon as possible
as hotels for the NCE sell out quickly! Advance registrants (US and Canadian residents only)
will receive their confirmation, conference badge, and tickets at their primary AAP mailing
address approximately two weeks prior to the NCE.
Scholarship Disbursement
Please Note: A check for $1,000 will be sent to the recipients after the National Conference
& Exhibition and receipt of the Practice Management-related activity report. Please note
the $1,000 check will be made payable to the Medical Student, Resident, or Fellowship
Trainee (unless otherwise specified on the form) and they will receive a 1099 form from
the IRS for the year 2014.

 October 11 – 14, 2014: National Conference & Exhibition in San Diego, CA
 December 19, 2014: Practice Management-Related Activity Report Due to
jlopez@aap.org. Report must be between 1-2 pages in length. Payment will be
issued upon receipt of Activity Report.
