The Wahluke School District is required by certain Federal and State laws to make the following notifications to parents. Should you
have questions about any of the following notices, please contact the District Office at 932-4565.
Subject: Family Education Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA) for elementary and secondary institutions
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act affords parents and students over 18 years of age certain rights with respect to the
student’s education records. They are:
1) The right to inspect and review the student’s education records within 45 days of the day the district receives a request for
access.
2) The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records that the parent or eligible student believes are
inaccurate or misleading.
3) The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student’s education records,
except to the extent the FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.
4) The right to file a complaint with the US Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the district to comply
with the requirements of FERPA. The name and address of the office that administers FERPA is: Family Policy Compliance

Subject: Nondiscrimination in Schools Nondiscrimination in Schools The Wahluke School District provides equal access to
the Boys Scouts and all other youth groups and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation
including gender identity or expression, national origin, the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability, or the use of a
trained dog guide or service animal by a person with a disability, age, or honorably discharged veteran or military status. This holds
true for all programs and services. Inquiries regarding compliance and/or grievance procedures may be directed to the school district’s
Equity and Civil Rights/Title IX Director and/or Section 504/ADA coordinator at (509)932-4565.
Subject: Release of Directory Information Federal law permits a school district to identify certain information as “directory
information”, which may be publicly released without permission of the parents. Wahluke School District, in District Policy 3231,
identifies this information as the following: a student’s name, photograph, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, dates of
attendance, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, diplomas and
awards received and the most recent previous school attended. The actual residential addresses of participants in the state Address
Confidentiality program will not be available for release as directory information. Such information shall not be released for
commercial reasons. If you do not want this information released, please contact the building principal within ten (10) school days of
receipt of this notice. If we do not hear from you by that date, we will assume that you have no objection to the release of such
information. We believe that it is in the student’s best interest to have such information released in school newsletters and community
newspapers because of the recognition it gives them. We make every reasonable effort to protect our students’ privacy.
Subject: Tobacco, Substance Abuse and Dangerous Weapons Policy All schools within the Wahluke School District are drugfree. It is a violation to possess, use, manufacture, transfer, conceal, sell, attempt to sell, deliver or be under the influence of narcotics,
alcohol, other drugs, or materials/substances represented to be a drug including tobacco on school grounds, property owned, leased or
maintained by the District, at all school-sanctioned activities, on and off campus, in vehicles used to transport students to and from
school or at other school-related activities. It is also a violation of District policy #4130 and state law for any person to carry a
firearm, air gun or dangerous weapon on school premises, school-provided transportation or areas of other facilities being used
exclusively for school activities. These bans apply to all students enrolled in the District’s schools, all persons employed by the
District, and all other persons during the time they are in/on school property. More detailed information available in policy #4130
Subject: Asbestos Containing Please be assured that the Wahluke School District No. 73 is intent on complying with all federal,
state and local regulations related to asbestos. A complete copy of the asbestos management plans and inspection results from each
building are available at the building offices, the District office, and at the Maintenance Supervisors office. Any asbestos related
questions may be addressed to Gil Favela.
Subject: School Attendance Required Parents of any child eight years of age and under eighteen years of age shall cause such
child to attend the schools of the district in which the child resides and such child shall have the responsibility to and therefore shall
attend for the full time when such school may be in session unless the child is enrolled in an approved private school, an educational
center, or is receiving home-based instruction. Exceptions may be granted by the superintendent under certain circumstances.
Subject: Request of Public Records Access to information concerning the administration and operations of the district shall be
afforded to the public as provided by the Public Disclosure Law and procedures developed by the superintendent .
Subject: Availability of Special Education Documents Policies and procedures and any related evaluations, plans, and reports
relating to the part “B” program are available to the public upon request through the Wahluke Special Education office and the
Superintendent’s office by contacting (509)932-4565.
