1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the

The Associate Director, Career Studio, leads in the development and implementation of programs and
activities designed to engage and assist Nevada students in actively developing career paths to help
them meet their post-baccalaureate goals and objectives, along with the professional skills needed to
take best advantage of opportunities within the global economic structure. The Associate Director
coordinates career education programming within the Career Studio, and a variety of career
development activities in collaboration with faculty and career professionals across the university. The
Associate Director is engaged in continuous assessment of student needs to ensure effectiveness in
addressing emergent issues in career development and education. The position reports to the
Director, Counseling Services.

60%- Career Education Programming
 Develops and runs innovative career education programs for undergraduate and graduate
students in all majors, including individual advising and group workshops
 Designs and teaches career development courses, workshops, and seminars
 Collaborates with academic faculty to design and teach career education content that aligns
with curriculum learning outcomes in various courses
 Creates career development resources for students regarding the job-search process,
interviewing, resume and letter writing, and all other facets of career planning
 Guides students through multiple stages of career development, from exploring career
paths to gaining experience to searching and applying for opportunities
 Presents career education and professional development workshops to student audiences
ranging from new student orientation to graduation, including to residence halls, special
population groups such as TRiO and the Center for Cultural Diversity, and student
organizations
 Works closely with the Internship and Employer Relations Coordinator to design experiential
learning opportunities such as internships and job-shadows paired with professional
development coaching
30%- Program Development, Management, and Supervision
 Plans strategically to develop effective and sustainable programs and events that align with
the Career Studio’s vision, mission, and goals
 Oversees the recruitment, training, and supervision of student Career Mentors, support staff,
and graduate assistantship positions within the Career Studio
 Designs and manages a physical studio space in which resources and learning are shared to
support students in career exploration and development
 Oversees the continuous development and management of up-to-date career resources,
including software applications, online tools, and a comprehensive website
 Manages the Career Studio’s peer advising program
 Collaborates with academic units and colleges to infuse professional and career education
focus into programs and courses offered by the departments
 Provides leadership for marketing and media relations efforts to promote the Career Studio to
the university and the wider community
 Contributes to the planning and execution of large annual and biannual events, including job
expos and career fairs

Manages the Career Studio’s budget and assists with budget and resource allocation planning
for the department
Manages the collection of and reports outcomes data on graduates’ first destinations after
college (e.g. full-time employment, graduate school, etc.)
10% - Program Assessment
 Assesses and evaluates the outcomes achievement and effectiveness of career development
programs
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Associate Director works closely with the Coordinator of Internships and Employer Relations, the
Digital Innovations Specialist, and academic units, and has autonomy to create and co-manage
innovative and effective career efforts on campus. The Associate Director makes recommendations
on the development of the career programs and services, and Career Studio planning to be included
in the Student Services Division strategic plan, and decisions on hiring and supervision of student
workers. The Associate Director consults with the Director when making decisions when donations
and/or funding is involved, in setting goals or programmatic issues, and on complex student issues.
Impact:
The work of the Associate Director will impact student enrollments, persistence, graduation and
transition into professional employment. The position collaborates with a variety of student services
and academic units in providing career education services to assist students in making a successful
transition from graduation to career employment.
