FIRST-YEAR STUDENT AWARDS
(New incoming students and students who have completed less than half the credit hours needed for their declared program of study)
Alternative High School Success
 Received GED with a score of 2,500 or above
within the past 12 months
Dependent Student Support
 Living on your own, not receiving parental
financial support, but still considered a
dependent for financial aid purposes
 Must provide the following when submitting
your application
o Prior year tax return indicating income of
$4,000 or more
o Letter explaining your circumstances
Non-Traditional Careers
 Enrolled in a curriculum program considered
non-traditional for your gender – see Page 4 for
details
President’s Discretion
 Exceptional circumstances; application will be
referred to President for review
 Must provide a letter explaining your
circumstances
Single Parent
 Single parent with one or more dependent
children in the household
Dislocated Worker
 Recently terminated or laid off due to plant
closure or significant workforce reduction
 Must provide documentation of layoff or
receipt of unemployment benefits when
submitting application
Valedictorian/Salutatorian
 Graduated 1st or 2nd in your high school
graduating class
 FAFSA is optional
Excellence in High School
 High school transcript indicating class rank in
the top 15%
Veterans
 Veterans with demonstrated additional need
 Submit documentation of honorable discharge
 Based on recommendation of the Veterans’
Coordinator
Under-Represented Population Scholars
 Identify as African-American, Asian, Pacific
Islander, Native American, or Hispanic

Campus Involvement
 Current member of a Student Governmentsanctioned club
 Provide letter from club advisor certifying
active club participation
Restart
 Have completed 30+ credit hours at A-B Tech
 Have not taken classes for at least one
academic year
 A-B Tech GPA is 2.5 or higher
Merit Scholar
 A-B Tech cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
indicated on transcripts
 Member of the A-B Tech chapter of Phi Theta
Kappa
 FAFSA is optional
President’s Discretion

Fill out the one-page application on page 3.
Attach your high school, college(s), and/or GED transcript(s).
Attach any other required documentation listed in the preceding descriptions.
Submit your FAFSA (school code 004033) unless the scholarship indicates it is optional.
Submit your packet to an advisor, recruiter, or any staff member at the One Stop Center in the Bailey
Building.
