NEWS
Our Urban Shop
The Our Urban Shop pilot will provide business advice and financial support to urban communities that are making
progress towards their goal to set-up community-owned shops for local residents.
As well as enjoying better access to food, local communities will realise the exciting range of opportunities their shop
can give them - whether this be volunteering to gain new skills, gaining employment opportunities or being part of a
community that’s working together.
Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Our Urban Shop will be providing funding and advice to communities coordinated by experts at the Plunkett Foundation and Locality.
How to apply
Our Urban Shop will recognise and support communities that are:
Within the UK
Live in an urban community
Want to hear more about how the community can take control
Want to actively work with the local community
The pilot is all about supporting communities to set up community shops that will stock food and basic provisions.
Community shops are owned and run by the community, and so this initiative is not open to private businesses.
Communities can share their experiences and express an interest in Our Urban Shop by Monday 16 June 2014 here.

NEPes offer recognised environmental accreditation to local organisations for £100
8 May 2014 - NEPes Press Release
We have secured funding to help organisations attain a recognised environmental
management accreditation usually valued up to £2,000, for only £100.
The accreditation, called Investors in the Environment, enables organisations to monitor and manage their resource costs and
environmental impact, whilst evidencing their green credentials
to customers.
We are 1 of only 13 organisations in the UK to be awarded the 2014 Queen’s Award for Enterprise
in Sustainable Development. The Queen’s Awards recognise businesses that make up the backbone of the UK economy. In 201112 one third of all UK economic growth was from the low carbon economy. In recognition of this, last year NEP’s social enterprise
trading arm, NEP Energy
Services (NEPes), launched the local branch of Investors in the Environment, a national environmental management network.
The programme is run in partnership with local university business schools and is supported by
the Chamber of Commerce and the Environment Agency.
Jerome Baddley, NEPes Sustainability Services Manager said “In an increasingly green-aware marketplace, we help
businesses save money quickly through resource and energy efficiency; we improve their green credentials and cut the
environmental impacts of their products and services".
NEPes is working with Nottingham Trent University’s Future Factory to provide organisations with grant funding and expert
consultancy support to minimise the cost and effort of implementing an environmental management system. Eligible organisations
can access full Investors in the Environment accreditation and up to 1.5 days of consultancy from NEPes. All this is offered for only
£100; the usual value of this type of support is up to £2,000 depending on organisation size
and level of iiE accreditation.
For Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire food and drink sector organisations, we are also running a programme with Nottingham
Business School, providing free student support through a structured, publicised programme, to analyse resource data, calculate a
carbon footprint and help assemble
the documentation to put towards an Investors in the Environment accreditation.
