Spelling Sheet G Directions
These directions are just guidelines. Parents, please change them to suit your
needs.
Stop the Clock!
(Thanks, Abby!)
Go to the website. Each time you spell a word correctly, you get a turn at the game.
This is a good way to practice telling time, too.
Spelling Blocks or Math Blocks
(Thanks, Timmy!)
Each time you spell a word correctly, or do a math problem or game answer
correctly, you add a block to a structure that you create. Use Legos or any block
of your choosing.
Bathtub Wall Spelling (Thanks, Carlee!)
Paint your words on the bathroom wall, before or after your shower.
Sticky Notes Spelling (Thanks to Family Fun Magazine, October, 2011)
Use your list. Write one letter from each of the spelling words on one sticky note.
Place the sticky notes on a mirror or other such surface in random order. Someone
reads a word to you, and you run to the mirror to get all of the letters for that
word. Then run to another surface, such as a window, and set up the letters for
the word in the correct order, placing them either horizontally or vertically.
Variations: Once you get the word up, spell the word aloud, then close your eyes
and spell it aloud again.
Parent or other person takes the role of the student and makes the words,
intentionally spelling some incorrectly. The student becomes the teacher and
corrects the spelling.
Stick up your words “Scrabble Style,” intersecting words on the surface. Use your
assigned list first, and then make up new words with your sticky notes if you have
time.
You could also use Scrabble tiles to play this game without sticky notes. If you
don’t have enough tiles, then use half the list at a time.
Simon Says Spelling
Play a version of Simon Says while spelling. Someone takes the leader role. Mix up
the Simon Says directions to include action and spelling commands.
If the speller spells a word incorrectly, then the roles change. Or make up your
own version of this game.
