HOUSING PACK
2013-14
Welcome to the Museum Road
Housing Pack…
This Document is designed to give you a
rough guide to the rooms in Mus, based on
the opinions of some of their previous
owners
Where rooms don’t have a fact file, I refer
you to identical rooms in adjacent, which
have the same stats!
These docs are accounts and
approximations and it’s still important to go
and see Mus for yourself- but what follows
will hopefully provide you with a sense of
which houses have better facilities, which
rooms to go for and which to steer clear of!
Happy house hunting!
Peter – HT 2014
23.01
Size:
Very big! Nicely proportioned.
Storage and work space:
One wardrobe, bedside table, bookshelves and a lovely desk right by all the plugs
and internet.
Natural light:
Quite poor as underground.
En suite quality:
Really lovely - sensational shower.
Kitchen Facilities:
Really nice big kitchen with quite a lot of storage space. Also has about 74
spatulas.
Miscellaneous:
Signal is shocking. Also there is no window to open - you have to open the whole
patio door thing if you want any air. And you can hear everyone's conversations on
Mus Road. However it is handily right by the kitchen and in general is a very
beautiful room.
23:02
Size:
Really good size, plenty of space.
Storage and workspace:
Really good - great desk with lots of draw and surface space, great wardrobe, good
number of shelves.
Natural light:
A bit on the dark side but not bad, need to put on light on grey days!
En suite quality:
Actually one of two rooms not to have an en suite but bathroom is really big and
only shared with one other person. Never a lack of hot water.
Kitchen Facilities:
Really great size kitchen with good facilities. Very well stocked - we didn't need to
bring much with us for the kitchen at all!
Miscellaneous:
This is a really nice room in a great house! The only downside is that it's one of
the only rooms not to have an ensuite but it's only shared with one other person so
you're unlikely to have to wait to use it.

SEE 23.02
24:01
Size:
Medium/Large
Storage and Workspace:
Reasonable Storage, Wardrobe, Big Desk
Natural Light:
Good considering it's underground
En suite Quality:
Great, but a little small.
Kitchen Facilities:
Fantastic, small house means no crowding, kitchen is right across from the room.
Miscellaneous:
Not much signal.
24:02
NB. This room says that it is in house 24 IT IS NOT, it is actually part of
house 23 so you will use house 23's kitchen and front door.
Size:
Good size, square not L shaped so plenty of room
Storage and work space: big desk, bookshelf above desk, 2 sets of drawers,
cupboard with full length mirror, 2 notice boards, 6 plug sockets
Natural light:
Moderate, overlooked by EPA so once sun has gone down behind building can be
a bit dark but big window
En suite quality:
Share a bathroom with one other person but it is huge as it is a disabled bathroom.
The scouts tend to use it when in the common room which means it is always
clean.
Kitchen facilities:
Good, shared with 4 other people enough cupboard space for everyone.
Miscellaneous:
Next to the scout's common room and between 2 front doors so you can hear
them coming in at 7am every week day.
24:03
Size:
Relatively small but not cramped.
Storage and Workspace:
A relatively small wardrobe and a small chest of drawers. Good desk and shelves.
Natural Light:
Not that much, a bit of direct sunlight in the afternoon.
En suite Quality:
Great, standard for Mus Rd
Kitchen Facilities:
Really good as it's shared between 3 people only and has lots of cupboards and a
large fridge/freezer.
Miscellaneous:
Bit of noise in the morning as the scouts' common room is below
24:04
Size
Quite large, in the shape of an L.
Storage and work space
Good shelf space, large desk, very small wardrobe so bad if you have lots of
clothes that need to be hung up. Also no space to keep suitcases/boxes unless they
fit under the bed.
Natural light
Very good, two large windows facing onto Mus Rd.
En suite quality
Very good.
Kitchen Facilities
Excellent: big kitchen for just 3 people, more cupboard space than you need and
well stocked with crockery/pans etc.
Miscellaneous
No double glazing means noise from Mus Rd is rather loud most evenings (between
10pm-midnight). The Scout common room is in this house, so scouts come in
through the front door (which bangs loudly) from 7am every weekday morning.
25.01
SEE ALL ’01’s- Standard Basement
25.02
Size:
Not that big, but a 'normal' shape (i.e. not 'L' shaped).
Storage and work space:
Not great storage space - the cupboard is really small - but good work space with
window nearby and shelves above the large desk.
Natural light:
Quite good - looks out onto the main complex, not the road.
En suite quality:
Very good, providing everyone in the house doesn't want to shower at the same
time, in which case there's very little hot water/water at all.
Kitchen Facilities:
Fine; pots, pans, kitchen utensils, cutlery etc. all provided and in (relatively) good
condition. The fridge is a good size and plenty of cupboard space. Cooker a bit
unstable, which coupled with a difficult-to-open oven door makes cooking a bit
hazardous.
Miscellaneous:
Overall good room but right by the front door, so can be a bit noisy at times.

26:02
Size:
Quite average maybe 5m square (at a very bad guess)
Storage and Workspace:
Very big desk, built-in cupboard, six drawer
Natural Light:
Not fantastic, just one average sized window, but there are two lights in the room
(one above the bed)
En suite Quality:
Perfect quality, there is a toilet, it works. A shower so powerful it is almost painful.
Several places to put things. A heated towel rail.
Kitchen Facilities:
Average sized kitchen in basement, oven (makes slightly weird noises), microwave,
fridge-freezer, cupboards.
Miscellaneous:
On the ground floor so can be noisy from outside, basement, room above - the
walls are not sound proof. Front door slams which shakes the entire room (cheap
alarm clock)
26.03
Size:
Reasonable
Storage and Workspace:
Desk, wardrobe, two sets of drawers, loads of shelves!
Natural Light:
Ok, rooms on higher floors have more windows.
En suite quality:
Good
Kitchen facilities:
One of the smaller kitchens, but does a good job.
26.04
Standard Number 04 Room, see M27, 28 etc
26:05
Size:
Smaller than some other houses but second-biggest in the house it's in
Storage and Workspace:
Average
Natural Light:
Excellent, two big windows
En suite Quality:
Average
Kitchen Facilities:
Smaller than some kitchens
Miscellaneous: None

Standard Number 6 Room for M26, 27, 28, 32, 33,34
26.07
Standard Number 6 Room for M26, 27, 28, 32, 33, 34
27.01
Size:
Legitimate
Storage and work space:
Plenty of room for activities
Natural light:
Entirely devoid, subterranean bunker
En suite quality:
Fluorescent and sterile
Kitchen Facilities:
Casual Industrial Gloom
Miscellaneous:
Underground location ideal for nuclear wintering/Matrix-esque post-apocalyptic
raves.
27:02
Standard Number 2 room
27.03
Size:
One of the smallest rooms in the house, but still a decent size.
Storage and Workspace:
There’s a large desk but not much storage space; a wardrobe with some draws in, a
bedside cabinet, 3 small desk draws and a set of shelves above the desk. There is
room under the bed to store stuff though.
Natural Light:
Good
En suite Quality:
Good
Kitchen Facilities:
The kitchen is in the kitchen and a nice size. There’s room to sit all 7 people round
the table if you want.
Miscellaneous:
The room can be a bit noisy because people are walking past on Mus Road, and
they can also see straight in the window.
27.04
Standard number 4 room
27.05
Similar to 27.03, but floor above and with lower ceiling- Identical floor plan
27:06
Size:
Big.
Storage and Workspace:
Storage isn't great - got quite a lot of things pushed under my bed. Work space is
great.
Natural Light:
Good - the room has two windows (most rooms in mus road have only one).
En suite Quality:
Good.
Kitchen Facilities:
One of the biggest kitchens in mus road.
Miscellaneous:
The room also has a little coffee table, which (most) other rooms don't have.
27:07
Size:
One of the bigger ones in the house (though they are all pretty similar on the top
two floors)
Storage and work space:
1 wardrobe with a couple of shelves in, a desk with shelves for books and a bed
side cabinet with draws - not a huge amount of space for folding clothes though
quite a lot for hanging them.
Natural light:
Loads :) two big windows facing the street and at the top of the house so lots of
light.
En suite quality:
Good.
Kitchen Facilities:
Fairly big kitchen but not a huge amount of storage space - most people keep
some dry foods in their room or bring a small fridge from previous years though
that isn’t necessary.
Miscellaneous:
Up 3 flights of stairs which can be a pain for moving stuff in, but at least you only
have to do that once! Otherwise it is a really nice room.
29.01
Size:
Big. This is a very nice house, with some of the biggest rooms in Mus Rd.
Storage and Work Space:
One nice wardrobe with a full length mirror on the door and drawers inside, one
bedside table with drawers. A big desk with drawers and some good shelving
above it, which is deep enough to hold books and folders (many of the shelves in
Mus aren't).
Natural Light:
Big bay window facing onto Mus Rd. North facing, so not a huge amount of
direct sunlight but the window is so big that it is quite light anyway.
En Suite Quality:
Quite a standard sized en suite, similar to all the other rooms.
Kitchen Facilities:
A huge kitchen, the only one that is above ground in the whole of Mus Rd. Ample
room for having all 7 people in the kitchen at the same time.
Miscellaneous:
First floor room facing Mus Rd means that you get a fair bit of noise, particularly
with Lorries in the mornings, but it isn't a huge issue. The big size of the room
definitely outweighs this little negative point.
The general layout of the house is nice as it is on just 2 floors (rather than 4, like
most of the others). 3 rooms and the kitchen on one floor and the other 4 rooms
upstairs. Shares a front door with Staircase 30 (the 3 person house), where
Staircase 30 occupies the basement and ground floor and Staircase 29 the 1st and
2nd floors.
29:02
Size:
Very big - one of the biggest in Mus (all the rooms in this house are rather
spacious)
Storage and Work Space:
Good shelf space (a previous student left a large floor-to-ceiling bookcase behind).
Clothes wise the storage isn't great. The desk is big so lots of workspace.
Natural Light:
Bay window so lots of natural most of the day (though it reflects off the side of
some rather ugly Keble accommodation rather than being a primary light source...).
En Suite Quality:
En-suite itself is quite small but the shower it big.
Kitchen Facilities:
Kitchen is the only (?) above ground in mus, which is great, but does weirdly lack
cupboard space.
Miscellaneous:
The room is fantastic, although it can be a bit noisy being just above the lodge and
mus road generally (but that does go for most rooms on this side). The ceiling is
really high as well which makes the room feel even more spacious and open. On
the same level as the kitchen.
29:03
Size:
Quite big with high ceilings
Storage and Workspace:
Great workspace- big desk but NO storage. Only one tiny cupboard, a bedside
table and a small set of shelves.
Natural Light:
Great natural light
En suite Quality:
Good en suite though shower head was recently changed and now the pressure of
the shower is quite weak
Kitchen Facilities:
Best kitchen in Mus- massive and not in the basement so great natural light
Miscellaneous:
Despite being next to the kitchen, you can never hear any noise from the kitchen
and it is generally a very quiet room. The room is a very weird shape so the
furniture is all against one wall which is a bit odd but you get used to it.
29.04
Size
Fairly large
Storage and work space
Plenty of storage with two chests of drawers, a wardrobe with a set of drawers inside
and a large bookshelf on the wall above the desk, which also has drawers
Natural light
Plenty of natural light with two large windows
En suite
Quality Fairly large, spacious en suite
Kitchen Facilities
Access to very large kitchen; the only kitchen above ground!
Miscellaneous
N/A
29:05
Size:
Very big for Mus Road
Storage and Workspace:
Big wardrobe, large desk, 2 chests of draws, large bookshelf and small bookshelf.
Natural Light:
Two narrow windows - not brilliant light
En suite Quality:
Very good en suite with lots of room for storage
Kitchen Facilities:
Kitchen above ground, so natural light. Very big compared to others.
Miscellaneous:
Orange carpet and curtains.
29:06
Size:
Fairly large: as big as the Mus rooms get.
Storage and work space:
Very big desk and two bookshelves, fairly small wardrobe
Natural light:
Very good (south facing and on the top floor).
En Suite Quality:
Very good
Kitchen Facilities:
The biggest kitchen in Mus (also the only kitchen that is above ground).
Miscellaneous: none stated
29:07
Size:
Good size and shape compared to the rest of the Mus complex, however one of the
smaller rooms in the house.
Storage and work space:
Good sized desk, good furniture compared to other rooms in house (nice/a
wardrobe, deep 'above desk' shelves, bedside drawers.) No useless and annoying
thin shelves which are in most of the rooms. 3 chairs as well, 1x office chair, 1x
standard chair with arms, 1x squishy chair.
Natural light:
Good, two standard windows facing the EPA, morning sun.
En suite quality:
Nice, 'square' shower as opposed to corner shower although this is true for all of
the rooms in the house but is not always the case in other houses. Kitchen smells
do seem to seep into en suite however, from both of the kitchens in the building
(comprised of 2 houses)
Kitchen Facilities:
Very good, the only non-basement kitchen available, great size and natural light in the
day is a big positive for tea breaks.
Miscellaneous:
House layout is awesome and very sociable - all bedrooms open up onto main
landing. 3 bedrooms + kitchen on one floor and 4 bedrooms on top floor, plus there
is the possibility of visiting the connected house downstairs whilst in your slippers.
30:01
Size:
A pretty big room, part of a 3 person house and in the basement, next to the
kitchen.
Storage and work space:
Generally good- single bed- all rooms in Mus are quite noisy I think- you get the
street noise in this room but you get people walking past you.
Natural Light:
No window (as in basement) but door you can’t open onto a small area outside.
Light not a problem at all though.
En Suite Quality:
Nice en suite.
Kitchen Facilities:
Fantastic kitchen- as big as all the others, and for only 3 people!
Miscellaneous:
My room is great actually. Being next door to the kitchen is also nice. Can get a bit
cold in basement, but warm blanket and you'll be fine.
30.02
See 31.02: Identical Room but with less shelving
30.03
Unusual Room, Quite large and facing the
31.01
Standard Basement Room
31:02
Size:
Pretty small, approximately 3 bed widths across and a bit longer than one.
Storage and work space:
Good shelving above desk, small shelves above bed, bedside table with drawers
and okay sized built in wardrobe with shelves for clothes and hanging rail. Very
good sized desk with 3 drawers.
Natural light:
Not great, ground floor and faces into Mus/EPA courtyard, so no direct sunlight.
En suite quality:
Really good, nice and clean and modern, shower is good pressure and gets hot very
quickly.
Kitchen Facilities:
In basement, quite small for 7 people, but well stocked and has one of the best
ovens/hobs.
Miscellaneous:
Quite cosy and mattress is pretty comfortable.
31.03
See 32.03
31.04
Size:
Boring, humdrum room. Same size as all the others because the architect used
Copy+ Paste. One chair has to sit awkwardly in the middle of the room though,
but this can act as conversation starter. Though it’s not a great conversation.
Storage and Workspace:
Same meaningless, counter-productive, two inch-deep shelves as all the other
rooms. Has a desk.
Natural Light:
Depends if the sun’s out.
En suite Quality:
Cannot sing in the shower without neighbour complaining of weird noises.
Kitchen Facilities:
Fridge door does not stay shut, as the little people who live inside it keep opening
it when you leave the room.
Miscellaneous:
Dodgy looking stain on carpet.
31:05
Size:
Biggest in house, very nice
Storage and Workspace:
Good built in Wardrobe, nice shelves above desk and by bed, other pointless
stupid shelves above bed (too thin for everything)
Natural Light:
Big Bay window so great (over road)
En suite Quality:
Aren't they all the same, you can hear people in the kitchen (2 floors below!) crazy.
Kitchen Facilities:
Better oven than others, kitchen is not big but we have had 7 people eat here fine
Miscellaneous: none stated
31:06
Size:
Fairly small room, but cosy nevertheless, great if you like being high up.
Storage and Work Space:
Storage a little on the small side, nice cupboard wardrobe with ample hanging
space, big cases have to go under the bed.
En suite quality:
En-suite as standard, never a cold shower.
Natural light:
Not brilliant, but I don't really care.
Kitchen Facilities:
Well-stocked kitchen with separate fridge and freezer, seating space for the whole
house around the table when extended.
Miscellaneous:
Lovely house overall. Faces inward so no fantastic view of Keble quad, but on the
whole very pleasant and habitable. Be careful to shut the blinds when you come
out of the shower naked, because there are grads living directly opposite.
31.07
Size:
Average for Mus road rooms
Storage and workspace:
1 smallish wardrobe, bedside table and some deep but not so tall shelves. Also has
really shallow shelves with no practical purpose. Desk is fairly large with 3 drawers.
Natural light:
Windows are quite small so poor, particularly when cloudy.
En suite quality:
Good, shower is very good.
Kitchen facilities:
Standard for Mus Road, electric hobs aren't great. Room is at top of the house so
far away from the kitchen.
Miscellaneous:
None.
32.01
Size:
Medium
Storage and Workspace:
Built in wardrobe, desk with drawers, bedside table
Natural Light:
Not much as it's the basement room
En suite Quality:
Small but nice, looks pretty new
Kitchen Facilities:
Small but good storage
Miscellaneous:
The carpet is pretty gross and maintenance won't change it, I bought a rug to cover
the whole thing.
32:02
Size:
Average, quite small, but a nice, regular shape.
Storage and Workspace:
Big desk, nice built-in wardrobe with small shelves. Small set of drawers. Small
shelves by bed (can just about be persuaded to hold books), large shelves over
desk. Storage boxes are a good idea for under the bed.
Natural light:
Good light for a ground floor room. Looks out onto EPA.
En-suite quality:
Great and a good shape.
Kitchen:
Sharing one small kitchen with seven people.
Miscellaneous:
Very noisy when people slam front door coming in and out. Very visible from
outside but great for people to come and chat…
32.03
Size:
Small-Medium (odd shape makes it feel smaller)
Storage and Workspace:
Decent-sized desk, storage standard issue as far as I can tell for a Mus room.
Handy having a closet rather than a wardrobe as it doesn't impinge on floor space
Natural Light:
Not great.
En suite Quality:
Large, good shower.
Kitchen Facilities:
Small- very hard to fit 7 people in at once (we have to move the table out so
cooking becomes impossible. Good number of cupboards though.
Miscellaneous:
32.04
Standard Number 4 Room
32.05
Size:
Medium
Storage and Workspace:
Good workspace, facing the window. Wardrobe is quite small but lots of shelves
Natural Light:
2 large windows and the room is very shallow so good natural light
En suite Quality:
Decent, although it makes the room into an L shape and the desk chair is
uncomfortably close to the toilet door
Kitchen Facilities:
Small and subterranean
Miscellaneous:
Plenty of plug sockets, conveniently placed
32.06
Standard Number 6 Room
32.07
Standard Number 7 Room
33:01
Size:
Largest room in the house
Storage and Workspace:
2 bookshelves (1 of them approx. 3 cm deep). Desk with drawers. Bedside table
and a clothes cupboard.
Natural Light:
It's a basement. Light has improved since the removal of the fridge that blocked
balcony light.
En suite Quality:
Fairly large. Towel rail in a stupid place, but shower is like Niagara Falls.
Kitchen Facilities:
Hobs are slightly funny. 1-4 does nothing, then 5 just boils everything. After a
series of maintenance requests, now has 2 fridges and a large freezer.
Miscellaneous:
Has a porch.
33:02
Size:
Average- quite small but nice and square
Storage and work space:
Good size desk, and good sized wardrobe but only 4 shelves for storage so under
bed boxes are useful
Natural light:
Is okay but is on the ground floor and has a wall opposite it
En suite quality:
Great, good size
Kitchen Facilities:
Sharing 1 kitchen with 7 people- quite small but not as small as some others in
Mus. kitchen well equipped pretty much
Miscellaneous:
Only thing is it is the first front room on the house so not only is it very noisy with
people coming in and out, but people can see in the window completely
33:03
Size:
Medium-Long and thin
Storage and Workspace:
Large desk. Plenty of storage space- 2 sets of shelves, walk in wardrobe and
bedside table.
Natural Light:
Poor- only one window with net curtain as on ground floor.
En suite Quality:
Very good. Quite large and all working well
Kitchen Facilities:
Good
Miscellaneous: none stated
33.04
Standard Number 4 Room
33.05
Size:
Medium, but thin and long which feels bigger than the square even-numbered
rooms. Smaller than equivalent rooms in the houses with bay windows, but
perfectly fine. Nice high ceiling. Probably nicest room in house.
Storage and Workspace:
Loads of shelving and storage, inbuilt wardrobe. Big desk with some drawers.
Natural Light:
Lots – instead of bay window like some houses, has 2 BIG windows facing onto
Mus Rd, north facing but room very light.
En suite Quality:
Very nice, plenty of shelves.
Kitchen Facilities:
Kitchen not huge but big enough by Mus standards, fits 7 people round the table,
can have a couple of people cooking at once without issue. Everything works fine,
abnormal number of glasses, brand new fridge and freezer.
Miscellaneous:
House has a remarkable ability to permeate cooking smells up through the
extractor fans. Means you get easily tempted downstairs by bacon and/or curry.
33.06
Standard Number 6- See M35
33:07
Size
Reasonable
Storage and work space
Again reasonable. Nice big desk, small bedside chest of draws, bookshelves,
wardrobe with shelving, some deep shelving, alongside the world's narrowest
shelves.
Natural light
Good. Two large windows facing out to Keble.
En suite quality
Fine, now the toilet has stopped leaking
Kitchen Facilities
Adequate - not the biggest of kitchens, but has everything you need (incredible
selection of glasses), and can fit everyone around the table (just).
Miscellaneous
Can hear pipes making noises whenever next door uses their en suite. Extractor
fan deposits kitchen smells in en suite, rather than extracting. Quite a lot of stairs
with kitchen in the basement.
34:01
Size:
Average
Storage and work space:
1 cupboard and 1 small set of 3 drawers, I could've used more- great large table
with set of drawers, right next to the internet port/plugs/heater
Natural light:
In the basement, so low. Pretty much leave the light on all day
En-Suite:
Great, and of decent size too
Kitchen:
The kitchen is right next door, though you do get some noise coming through
34.02
Size:
3 or 4 metres and square
Storage and Workspace:
Big desk with a small drawers set, set of 3 drawers and a cupboard with a fulllength mirror in it. And a hole in the floor.
Natural Light:
Not excellent, I'm ground floor facing EPA and I have the electrics shed opposite
me
En suite Quality:
Good, shower is really hot unless you have the power on really strong
Kitchen Facilities:
Basement kitchen shared with 6 others
Miscellaneous:
The hole in the floor is in the wardrobe by the shelves, not too much of a problem
unless stuff falls off from the top of the shelves into the hole and you forget about
it.
34:03
Size:
Medium but snaky.
Storage and Work Space:
Excellent desk, one chest of drawers, one book case, one large shelving unit, and a
small wardrobe with full-length mirror. You get your own personal fire door.
There is a lot of potential for interior decoration.
Natural Light:
Average bordering on dim, but with enthusiastic lighting.
En Suite Quality:
The en-suite is far larger than it needs to be, with a pulverising shower.
Kitchen Facilities:
Dark and dingy, with limited fridge space, reasonable storage, and classically
terrible Mus Road ovens. Small but cosy.
Miscellaneous:
The strange shape of the room makes it seem small, like an anti-TARDIS. Faces
the street so can be noisy. The curtains are very disagreeable. One chair is falling
apart, the other is new and a little solid, but I am breaking it in. Two noticeboards
and a pathetic radiator. It smells of rich mahogany.
34:04
Size:
Relatively small but not tiny, square in shape.
Storage and Workspace:
One large cupboard-wardrobe and a small chest of drawers, and wall shelves. Large
desk- more than enough to work on.
Natural Light:
South facing so gets a lot of natural light- I often have to close the curtain's
because it's too bright on the desk.
En suite Quality:
Very good- adequate in size and no problems with it.
Kitchen Facilities:
Basement kitchen shared between 7- one small fridge which can get crowded.
Otherwise good facilities.
Miscellaneous:
Room is kept warm in winter by sunlight but will get hot in summer. Drainage
pipes often make a loud gurgling sound which is always interesting. Ethernet port
is handily placed beside desk.
34.05
See 33.05
34.06
Standard 06 Room
34:07
Size:
Reasonable size, similar to 34:03 and 34:05 (but without the bay window), faces out
onto Mus Road
Storage and Work Space:
Plenty of shelving for folders, mugs, DVD's etc. , large desk with magnificent view
over Keble, two bedside tables, wardrobe with lots of shelving but very little
hanging space (only enough room for coats and gown, NOT jumpers, shirts etc.)
Natural Light:
Lots of natural light from two arched windows. Being on the top floor, the room is
naturally warmer than others. However the room does not receive direct sunlight,
so stays relatively cool
En Suite:
Large en suite with shower (very powerful and warm!), toilet and sink. There's also
a towel rail
Kitchen Facilities:
Standard size kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster etc. Currently
there's only one fridge and one freezer between seven people (both typical
household sizes) which is not ideal, but hopefully this will have improved for the
next cohort!
Miscellaneous:
Magnificent view of Keble College from the desk, lots of plug sockets. Being so
high up, the noise from Mus Road is barely noticeable (certainly not enough to
keep you awake)
BEAR LANE 5:2
Size:
Very good size - top floor - it's quite long (between 3-4 metres) and an L-shape
Storage and Workspace:
Wardrobe space within a wall - very good size; about 1 metre long - one shelf
above the hanging rail inside the wardrobe. One small chest of drawers. One desk.
One short coffee table (60cm-ish long). 2 book cases. 2 'easy' chairs. 1 swivel desk
chair.
Natural Light:
Fairly good - the window is small in comparison to the length of the room but the
room looks out onto Bear Lane so gets a decent amount of light through the
window.
En suite Quality:
No en suite - shared bathroom with two others.
Kitchen Facilities:
Kitchen plus living area (in one!) on ground floor - a nice cosy cottage feel :-)
Miscellaneous:
The room has a low ceiling compared with what you might be used to in the Mitre
/ elsewhere in College. Windows are single glazed sash so you get a bit of noise
from Bear Lane - but nothing you can't get used to / sort with ear plugs...
BEAR LANE 5.3
Size:
Small, top floor, square in shape
Storage and Workspace:
Very big wardrobe, two chest of drawers (one big and one small), one bookcase, a
desk (quite small) and one swivel chair
Natural Light:
Very little, quite a small window
En suite Quality:
No en suite, very big bathroom shared with 2 others
Kitchen Facilities:
Great, big kitchen and small living area, definitely the best thing in the house!
Miscellaneous:
Little noise compared with the two other rooms as it is not facing Bear Lane. Quite
a low ceiling. Very inconvenient location of the internet socket (behind the bed)
but you can use wifi instead.
BEAR LANE 6.1
Size
Huge- Occupies half the ground floor
Storage and work space
Lots of both (and more storage downstairs in the cupboards in the hall).
Natural light
Not bad, reasonable sized floor to ceiling window but badly located in the corner
of the room.
En suite quality
En suite toilet and cupboard, but has to share with (awesome) main bathroom
upstairs
Kitchen Facilities
Excellent. The kitchen - larger than most in Museum Road - is shared with just
three others, with plenty of storage and loads of fridge/freezer space. Very well
equipped.
Miscellaneous
Great room in a great house.
BEAR LANE 6.3
Size
Good sized, high ceiling room
Storage and work space
Lots of both good desk and humungous wardrobe
Natural light
Not bad- two good size windows but they look straight onto bear lane so not
much light actually makes it through them
En suite quality
No En Suite but awesome bathroom
Kitchen Facilities
Excellent. The kitchen - larger than most in Museum Road - is shared with just
three others, with plenty of storage and loads of fridge/freezer space. Very well
equipped.

BEAR LANE 6.3
Size
Very, very small.
Storage and work space
Lots of both (and more storage downstairs in the cupboards in the hall).
Natural light
Very little. On a really sunny day there's perhaps 4 hours when you won't need the
light on.
En suite quality
There's no en suite. There is no sink, and also no mirror. This isn't a problem,
because the bathroom, shared with the other three in the house, is considerably
larger than the bedroom, and has been recently redone with stylish tiling and a real
bath.
Kitchen Facilities
Excellent. The kitchen - larger than most in Museum Road - is shared with just
three others, with plenty of storage and loads of fridge/freezer space. Very well
equipped.
Miscellaneous
Despite most of the above, this is actually a great room in an excellent house.
Although possibly the smallest third year Lincoln room, it doesn't feel too
claustrophobic - the furniture is very new, the floor is laminate wood and the
(mostly straight) walls are in great condition, which somehow provides an illusion
of space. Also, BL6 is an actual house: we've got a front door onto Bear Lane, and
a porch. The four of you are only split over two levels, with a big hall and landing,
so it feels very homely.
BEAR LANE 6:4
Size
Nice and large with a nice high ceiling.
Storage and work space
Good wardrobe and chest of draws, also some quite useful shelving, but you can’t
really move things around because of the slopey floor! Desk is quite nice but not
very practical, with annoying draws and a gap too small to get a desk chair in- you
will be working in the library.
Natural light
Not bad- window is small, but right in front of desk and looks onto bear lane
courtyard, so not too depressing!
En suite quality
No en suite sink or mirror but a gorgeous bathroom!
Kitchen Facilities
Really good- nice large well stocked kitchen that isn’t subterranean!
