Reading Goes Hollywood (5-8) Math Intervention (Grades 5-6 and 7-8) Is the book better than the movie? Or is the movie better than the book? We’ll read the book; watch the movie, then write to persuade “the world” that our opinion is RIGHT! Mrs. Reeves Review math strategies that were covered in the 7th or 8th grade level. This class is to be taken by 7/8th grade students who did not pass or greatly struggled with math concepts in the 7th or 8th grade. TBD Piano (Grades 5-8) Comm. Arts Interventions (Grades 5-8) Come one come all and learn how to play the piano. Everything is provided. This class is for all skill levels, from beginning to advanced. The students will be able to travel to the residential care center(s) for a community service project. Mrs. Viets Pinterest Gone Wild! (5-8) Students will make crafts, snacks, DIY projects, experiments and more, all inspired by Pinterest. Basic techniques will be taught including sewing, weaving and embroidery. Items can be used as gifts or kept by the students. Students may also wish to exhibit them in the Dallas County Fair. Mrs. Wallace Current Events (grades 5-8) Students will do various activities relating to daily events that are happening around our county, state, country and the world. Mrs. McClurg News Team – (Grades 5-8) This news team will film daily announcements and do daily updates on the middle school Facebook page as well as the website. This class is for grades 5-8. Mrs. Lewis This class will review communication arts skills and is designed for students who need to develop a stronger foundation in this area. Grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing concepts and applications will be reviewed and reinforced; this will occur via paper and pencil as well as with technology. Mrs. Reeves Cooking (5-8) Learn how to cook. Students will be able to learn how to read and follow a recipe. The students will also have the opportunity to enter some baked items in the Dallas County Fair. Mrs. Viets Wonderful World of Hogwarts (Grades 5-8) In this class, students will become involved in the wonderful world of Harry Potter. Along with reading book one, students will be sorted into houses, play Quiddich, take part in a potions lesson, watch the first Harry Potter movie, and so much more! In the end, will your house win the house cup? Class is offered 2nd two weeks only. They will have the opportunity to participate in online strategy game/Wii sporting, fitness, and dancing competitions, individually or in teams.
