Height and weight measurements collected by Health Department trained students during their regular P.E. class(or designated practice/location by Principal’s request). Our Health and Physical Education Department will be using this fitness data to establish a baseline of students’ overall fitness level. It will be rechecked and recorded at the end of their P.E. course as well to establish student growth. Students will be working towards a healthy fitness level in all of the fitness components. Physical Education teachers will be utilizing safe, fun and effective ways to improve student’s overall fitness, by integrating warm ups and conditioning components in class regularly to help students improve in these and many areas of health and fitness. Parents can also help their children improve in these areas by assisting them with push-ups and curl-ups; walking and running; or other enjoyable cardio-respiratory activities, along with stretching and activities done as a family. Parents can access a video-sample of these activities performed by our Physical Education staff on our district website under Physical Education Department located at http://www.collierschools.com/pe/pe.htm Students may be opted out of completing height and weight screening. However, in grades 6-12 understanding their own personal health and fitness data is an important part of their standards.
