IUPUI Homecoming 2015 King & Queen Applications Contest Rules and Conditions: 1. Candidates can be full-time, undergraduate students enrolled on the Indianapolis campus. Students must be in at least their third year OR have completed a minimum of 50 credit hours and must be currently enrolled in at least 12 credit hours. 2. Each undergraduate candidate must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above for courses completed at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. Each graduate or professional candidate must be in good academic standing 3. Candidates can be full-time, graduate or professional students enrolled on the Indianapolis campus. Students must have completed at least two semesters of full-time study at IUPUI OR have completed a minimum of 18 credit hours. 4. Candidate applications will be judged on campus involvement, leadership qualities, scholarship, personality, and poise. A panel of IUPUI staff and/or alumni will judge the anonymous applications and narrow the field down to quarterfinalists on December 3, 2014. The first round of interviews will be conducted on December 9 and December 10 2014. The 10 semifinalists will be notified by January16, 2015. The second round of interviews that is included in the points total will be conducted on January 21 and January 22, 2015. 5. The court will consist of 5 students who identify as male and 5 students who identify as female. The court will reign over the events of Homecoming week with the King and Queen being announced at halftime during the basketball game on February 14, 2015. The Homecoming committee will keep track of the points accumulated over homecoming week which will be based on a weighted point system with Interviews worth up to 40 points, Donation Drive worth up to 15 points, Homecoming Week Attendance worth up to 15 points, an Online Voting poll worth up to 15 points, Can Food Drive competition worth up to 10 points and JagJam worth up to 5 points. The King & Queen will be determined by the individuals with the highest points by February 14, 2015. 6. All semifinalists will be required to attend the basketball game on February 14, 2015. Each semifinalist will be given 1 extra ticket for a non-IUPUI guest. Of course ALL IUPUI students get in free with their JagTag. 7. The King & Queen will each receive a scholarship worth up to $500. The receipt of this scholarship may reduce your eligibility for need-based financial aid awarded through the Office of Student Financial Services. 8. Completed applications will be due by 4:00pm Monday, November 24, 2014. Late applications will not be accepted. The online voting poll will be through a survey that students who attend Homecoming events will receive in their university email. 2. Voting will officially begin Monday at 8:00 AM and close Friday at 11:59 PM. 3. You may promote voting on your own Facebook or other social media under YOUR name. 4. You may not promote voting under any other name. (EX. If you are the administrator of a page for another organization you cannot post a link or any other promotional material as that organization.) 5. You may not promote voting via local media outlets, i.e. radio stations, news channels, newspapers, or magazines. 6. You may not promote voting through any paid advertisements online or elsewhere. Donation Drive (15 points): 1. Each candidate will be given a canning container at the beginning of the week in which they may use throughout the week to collect donations for the drive. 2. Each candidate will responsible for collecting and storing their own donations throughout the week. 3. All donations must be brought to the homecoming table during the JagJam Talent Show on Friday, February 13th. 4. Collections will continue through the event and will officially end at the conclusion of the JagJam Talent Show. Page 1 Homecoming Court Contest 5. The Homecoming committee will not under any circumstance collect donations at any other time before or after this event. 6. This event is optional. All candidates that participate will receive full points for this section. **Please remember the purpose of this event is to raise money for student scholarships and that you are representing not only yourself as a member of the homecoming court but as an IUPUI student.** Canned Food Drive (10 points): 1. Each candidate will have a box with their photo and bio attached in the Office of Student Involvement CE370. 2. The canned food drive will start Monday morning at 9:00AM and end Friday at 12:00PM 3. Each canned or boxed good is equal to one item when tallied. Ramen noodles are on a conversion of six packages to one item. All items collected will go to Paw’s Pantry our on campus Food Pantry. Attendance (15 points): 1. Attendance at the events throughout the week will count as 15 points. 2. Attendance points will be counted at the following nine events: 1. 3 Points-KickOff (Monday, February 9th) 2. 1 Point-Obstacle Course (Monday, February 9th @ 7pm) 3. 3 Points-Homecoming Court Reception (Tuesday, February 10th) 4. 2 Points-Men’s Basketball Game (Wednesday, February 11th) 5. 1 Point-Live at Lunch (Wednesday, February 11th) 6. 1 Point-Comedian Evening Event (Thursday, February 12th ) 7. 1 Point-Live at Lunch (Thursday, February 12th) 8. 2 Points-JagJam (Friday, February 13th) 9. 1 Point-JagGating (Saturday, February 14th) 3. In order to receive point members of the court must be in attendance for at least 50% of the time allotted for the event. 4. In the event that two activities are occurring at one time, points will be given to those who attend EITHER event. Extra points will not be given for attending both events, if occurring simultaneously. 5. In the case of the homecoming reception and dinner, points will be given for attendance at the reception and dinner, but no other events during that time. In addition to the attendance requirements during the week of Homecoming, please remember that the Homecoming King and Queen will be expected to have a presence at Pride and Tradition events on campus during their term as IUPUI Homecoming King or Queen. Page 2 Homecoming Court Contest JagJam (5 points): 1. Court members who participate in an act at the homecoming talent show either as an individual or group act will receive an automatic 5 points. Interview (40 points): 1. In order to be selected for the Homecoming Court, each candidate must go through a two part interview process with a panel of IUPUI staff. 2. The first interviews will be held in December, those candidates who are invited back will participate in the second round of interviews in early January. 3. Interviews will be based off of a rubric including specific criteria and questions relating to the IUPUI experience. 4. Points will be awarded to those who are invited to the court after the second interview, based upon their rubric score. Any breach of the rules and regulations stated above, listed in the homecoming court application, or listed in the Student Code of Conduct may result in loss of points or removal from the overall contest. Page 3 Homecoming Court Contest Guidelines and Expectations of Court Members: 1. All members of the court are expected to comply with the rules outlined in the student code of conduct and all University policies. 2. All members of the court are expected to conduct themselves in a respectable manner at all times. This includes but is not limited to social media presence. 3. All contestants are expected to abide by rules of good sportsmanship and standards of good taste throughout the entire course of the court competition. 4. Campaigning is allowed, but must be done in accordance with Campus Policy and 5. Campaigning must be used to promote oneself. 6. Interfering with another candidate’s campaign, either verbally or in writing is strictly prohibited. (Interfering may include, but is not limited to: mentioning the name of a candidate other than self in campaign materials; any inference/suggestion that represents another candidate in a negative manner; representing information in campaign material known to be or suspected as false; and defacing and/or damaging campaign materials). 7. Marketing agents, friends, and family members are required to follow the Student Code of Conduct and campus posting policies. 8. Campaigning is prohibited in any business institution that operates as a bar, lounge, club, and etc. 9. Candidates may use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and social networking cities; however, all posting policies and Student Code of Conduct policies still apply. 10. With credible evidence any candidate who is found guilty of tampering with other candidates campaigning materials will be disqualified. 11. Any complaints regarding violations of campaign rules must be submitted in writing to the Contest Coordinator within 24 hours of offense. 12. Violations may be referred to the faculty/staff advisory committee. All decisions regarding violations are final. I have read and understand the above document and agree to all terms and conditions.
