The primary accountability is to ensure that the company’s technical infrastructure, operations facilities and staff provide our customers with services and products consistent with promises made to customers. The VP will align the technology strategy and tactics with the exactEarth business strategy and be responsible for guiding the infrastructure design, deployment and operations. The VP Operations and Engineering will develop and implement technology initiatives within the organization and via alliances with third parties where appropriate. In this role the VP of Operations and Engineering will be responsible for: Coordination with satellite prime contractors to design, build and launch space based assets Earth station design and deployment in conjunction with key providers in Asia, Europe and the U.K. Operations of company owned earth stations Design, deployment and operations of the Data Processing and Operations Centers. Supplier contract negotiations and management Development and implementation of operating processes and procedures Planning, staffing and management of the engineering and operations support functions for satellite, earth station, network, data centre and corporate operations Ensuring that all designs and implementations are compatible and meet end to end performance requirements Developing technology and system roadmaps Key operating functions to be established and managed include: Earth Station Infrastructure: designing, deploying, management and monitoring of earth station infrastructure to support satellite operations. 60 Struck Court, Cambridge, Ontario, N1R 8L2 519 622 4445 www.exactEarth.com Network Infrastructure: deploying and monitoring links between Earth Stations, data centres, operating centres and customers; monitoring and managing communication links, tracking network performance and monitoring, assessing and mitigating potential threats. Satellite Infrastructure: in conjunction with prime and other satellite operators, design, launch, operations, monitoring and managing satellite constellations, tracking constellation performance and monitoring, assessing and mitigating potential threats. Data Processing and Database Operations: design, deployment, operations, monitoring and maintaining quality of exactEarth data processing and data at the Operations Centre. Customer Operations: monitoring and managing customer accesses applications, responding to support requests and auditing and monitoring security of customer data access. Corporate operations: ensuring that supporting corporate IT infrastructure is deployed and functional. The VP will: Participate as a member of the senior management team in the governance processes of the organization’s architecture, telecommunications, networks, programming, media, and desktops. Develop and lead the engineering and operations team. Develop and communicate business/technology alignment plans to executive team, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders. Direct development and execution of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan. Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for technology spending and initiatives. Conduct research and engage training programs to keep the team up-to-date and knowledgeable in regards to industry trends and emerging technologies and applications in anticipation of new business processes and system alterations. Develop and lead continuous improvement programs to enhance customer satisfaction and organization competitiveness. Develop and manage customer support programs and systems. Develop, track, and control the technical services annual operating and capital budgets for purchasing, staffing, and operations. 60 Struck Court, Cambridge, Ontario, N1R 8L2 519 622 4445 www.exactEarth.com Supervise recruitment, development, retention, and organization of all technical staff in accordance with corporate budgetary objectives and personnel policies. Ensure continuous delivery of technical services through oversight of service level agreements with end users and monitoring of systems, programs, and equipment performance. Ensure equipment and software operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations. Where necessary, oversee and develop patenting of intellectual property, inventions, and business processes. Formal Education & Certification University degree in the field of computer science, applied engineering, physics or similar technical field. Master’s or PhD. degree in one these fields preferred. Knowledge & Experience Thorough understanding of satellite based Automatic Identification System (AIS) technologies Fifteen years’ experience managing and/or directing technological operations. Five to ten years experience working in the Satellite Data services industry. International business experience with both suppliers and customers. Experience in strategic technology planning, execution, and policy development. Excellent knowledge of technology environments, including telecommunications, networks, programming, systems engineering, and rapid development regimes. Solid understanding of computer systems characteristics, features, and integration capabilities. Extensive knowledge of data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications, and outsourced systems. Technical experience with systems networking, databases, and user support. Excellent relationship management skills with customers, suppliers and partners Ability to explain technology challenges and opportunities to lay persons Exposure to business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations. Excellent understanding of project management principles. Proven experience in planning, organization, and development.
