Delta connections are from Pensacola to Venice, returning from Rome. A private luxury motor coach with an English Speaking guide will take us to each of our locations. Venice: All arrive via water taxi on the Grand Canal. No cars are allowed in Venice. The main square is Piazza San Marco. St. Mark’s Basilica dominates the “Heart of Venice”. Just outside the Basilica is the Bell Tower – “Campanile”. Around the corner is Palazzo Ducale or Doge’s Palace. This palace was a residence of Doge and also the Parliament House. The enclosed marble “Bridge of Sighs” arches over a canal to the New Prison. Included is a day trip to 2 main islands: Murano – glass blowing Burano – lace making. Shopping is part of the fun of exploring the city. There is a succession of narrow and crowded streets winding from Piazza San Marco to the Rialto Bridge. Look for Venetian glass, prints, paper products, leather items and lace. Florence: This is where the Renaissance began and the prime destination for art lovers. Points of interest: The Duomo, officially Santa Maria Del Flore, was started around 1296 and completed in the mid-1800”s. The Cathedral’s crowning masterpiece is Brunnellischi’s Red Brick Cupola. Climb the 463 steps to the top to view Florence. Other points of interest: Baptistery of San Giovanni (St. John), Galleria Dell’ Accademia (collection of Michalenglo’s and others works), Ponte Vecchio (goldsmith & jewelers’ shops), Uffizi Gallery (Italy’s greatest collection of Renaissance paintings), Basilica of Santa Groce (burial location of Michalengo, Machivelli and Galileo). We will have an excursion to Pisa with entrance to the tower included. Rome: There is so much to see and do in Rome. We will have a 4-hour city tour then you can pick and choose the sites you want to experience. Naples: A vibrant, noisy city with extremely friendly people and great Neapolitan food and WINE! Shop the designer outlets and local stores for leather goods, coral jewelry, cameos, nativity figurines, dolls and mask, to name a few. Pompell: In AD79, Versuvius erupted and engulfed the city in a thick layer of pumic and volcanic ash. Not until about 1750 was it rediscovered and excavations started. Now, you can wander the streets and see what life was like back then. Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast: The Amalfi Drive from Sorrento to Salerno is the most romantic drive in Italy. Sorrento is a beautiful town, centrally located for daily excursions. You can take a hydrofoil from Sorrento to Capri.
