Neuschwanstein Castle
Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a
rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest
Bavaria, Germany. The palace was intended as a personal refuge for the
reclusive king, but seven weeks after the death of King Ludwig II in 1886,
Neuschwanstein Castel was opened to the paying public. The timid king had
built the castle in order to withdraw from public life, but since his death,
millions of people have visited "the castle of the fairy-tale king". Today,
Neuschwanstein is the most visited castle in Germany and the most popular
of all palaces and castles in Europe, and one of the most popular tourist
destinations in the world. More than 1.3 million people visit yearly, with up
to 6,000 visitors a day in the summer. The palace has appeared in several
movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle and
also inspired Walt Disney to create the Magic Kingdom. Neuschwanstein
Castle is definitely one of the most charming and inspiring castles there
could be.
