Casualties- soldiers who are killed or wounded in battle 2. Siege- a military blockade of an area that cuts off all contact with the outside world 3. Treason- when someone attempts to overthrow a government or does something that harms his or her country 4. Seceded- left or broke away from/ states that left the Union 5. Reserve- extra soldiers waiting to fight 6. Cavalry- soldiers who ride horses in battle and are often scouts 7. Scouts- soldiers who traveled in front of the main army to find out where the enemy was and to map the land 8. Confederates- people who supported the South in the Civil War; comes from the name of a country formed by the states that seceded; the Confederate States of America 9. Union- term used to describe the United States of America; also the name given to the northern army during the Civil War 10.Surrender- to give up and lose a battle or the war 11.Counterattack- to attack after having already defended a position 12.Dedication- a ceremony to name or set aside somewhere for a special purpose
