Design Solution
The Surf Coast Shire has agreed to support
and resource The Plastic Bag Free
Torquay campaign. Anglesea, Winchelsea and
Aireys Inlet are all plastic bag free. We are well
on the way to the Surf Coast Shire becoming a
plastic bag free municipality.
Watch and then search the net to answer the question below
http://www.abc.net.au/btn/story/s2227446.htm
1. How many plastic bags a year does Australia use?
2. Why have a bag free environment?
3. List 4 different places that bags could end up that is not in the tip?
4. What are bags made up of?
5. How long does it take to break down a plastic bag ?
6. How long is the average bag used for?
7. List 2 alternative instead of plastic bags
8. In a group come up with a solution that you could use in your house hold?
Design Brief:
In excess of 100 billion plastic bags are used in the one country every year Worldwide, an estimated
500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are used- most are sadly not reused which is a sheer waste. As we
are aware plastic bags are recyclable, sadley than 3% of them actually are. The rest end up in landfills,
oceans, and as litter. Plastic bags take roughly 1,000 years to decompose which essentially means that
they sit filling our landfill sites releasing toxic chemicals into the earth/soil rather than being reused.
You will need to design produce and evaluate your own eco bag.
