I am participating in the 6th Annual Hank Thompson Trek and Treat on Saturday, October 18,
2014 at the Streets of Indian Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee. The Trek and Treat raises
awareness about lung cancer and money to fund lung cancer research grants through
Uniting Against Lung Cancer.
My personal goal is to raise $ _______________. I want to help the Trek and Treat because
the state of lung cancer funding is dismal. Though it continues to kill more people than any
other cancer, it receives the least amount of research dollars. The 5-year survival rate of 15 %
has not changed since 1971 due to the lack of funding. Additionally:
* 3 out of 5 lung cancer patients die within 12 months of diagnosis
* Over 437 Americans die each DAY from lung cancer-that is 18 an HOUR!
* Lung cancer takes more lives than breast, prostate, colon, liver, and kidney cancers combined
* About 65 % of all new lung cancer cases are people who never smoked or are former smokers.
Thankfully, the Trek and Treat has been blessed to grow each year through the generosity
and support of sponsors, vendors and participants of the community. Each year the
proceeds go directly to fund research grants at leading cancer research centers through
their partner, Uniting Against Lung Cancer. (All proceeds are tax deductible- Uniting Against
Lung Cancer (Tax ID #13-4195464)).
