Media Release – for immediate release Wednesday 10 September 2014 New online resource to help meet global conservation challenges Cambridge, UK – Wednesday 10 September 2014 A new online resource, capacityforconservation.org, launches today. The free online tool, created collaboratively by BirdLife International, Fauna & Flora International (FFI), the Tropical Biology Association and the University of Cambridge, will help conservation organisations build and expand upon existing knowledge and skills, ultimately helping them to better accomplish their conservation goals. Capacityforconservation.org contains over 140 tools, resources and case studies gathered by the world’s leading conservation NGOs. It also encourages users to upload their own tools and experiences in areas such as strategic planning, finance management, fundraising and communications and project development. This allows users to learn from best practice, while sharing their own examples so conservationists can learn from each other, ultimately helping to address the complex conservation challenges faced today. Marianne Carter, Director of Conservation Capacity and Leadership at FFI says: “We’re really excited about capacityforconservation.org! Fauna & Flora International supports over 300 partners around the world, and we receive frequent requests for help so they can become stronger, more resilient and independent. Having one central resource where they can share tools and learn from each other will make a real difference to how conservation organisations work together worldwide.” Christina Garcia, Director of the Ya’axché Conservation Trust, Belize and a user of capacityforconservation.org said, “Accessing different tools on the Capacity for Conservation website allowed Ya’axché to realise the experiences that exist among organisations around the world.” Capacityforconservation.org is already proving to be an invaluable tool for conservationists around the world. Ahead of the official launch 195 people have already registered on the website, logging on from 85 countries, from Antigua to 1 Zimbabwe. Resources are available in 18 languages, and work is underway to translate the site into Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. Those interested in finding out more can attend an event in Cambridge on Wednesday 1 October 2014. For details of the event please email info@capacityforconservation.org or register directly on Eventbrite. All those with an interest in conservation are welcome. - ENDS Note to editors About Capacity for Conservation Capacityforconservation.org has been developed by the Capacity for Conservation Collaboration, a joint initiative between BirdLife International, Fauna & Flora International, the Tropical Biology Association and the Department of Geography, University of Cambridge.
