Section 2 Collagen Colway Ltd – the business
History & background
Collagen Colway Ltd was established in July 2010 and is equally owned by Maria Luba-Muczko and
Alina Kardasz.
Maria and Alina recognised that there was potentially a huge opportunity to sell high quality collagen
based products in the UK, replicating similar success stories for the product in Italy and Poland.
Judging this was too big an opportunity to miss they established a direct selling organisation to enable
the vision to become a reality.
The business in the UK is supplied by Colway Unlimited who own intellectual property rights over the
products and manufacturing process of the majority of the products.
A similar arrangement exists with distribution companies (similar to Collagen Colway) in the USA,
Italy, France, Bulgaria, Russia, and Czech Republic.
The success of the business in the UK depends on the quality of the product (giving it a competitive
edge over rivals) and the ability to attract committed Collagen Colway Consultants to generate sales.
The company is based at North London Business Park, Oakleigh Road South, London N11 1GN.
Aims & objectives
Collagen Colway aims to become the most trusted source of pure collagen products in the UK.
By offering distinctive good value collagen based products, exceptional support, training and

Collagen Colway Training Guide 2014
Section 3 The market and what is collagen?
What is collagen?
Collagen is a basic human protein which gives the skin resilience, strength to the bones and
muscles, elasticity to veins and tendons, and plays an important part in various life processes.
Because there is a clear relation between ageing and the reduction of this protein in our body,
collagen has become widely used as a supplement and a beauty products ingredient. People
have always been looking for the “Elixir of Youth”. Live longer and in a good form is a
universal need and Collagen Colways offer a natural solution - pure, and fresh collagen for
topical use – Platinum, Silver and Graphite, and Colvita – a food supplement.
Over 30% of the protein mass in the human body is collagen, which is the main component of
connective tissue, different types of which are found throughout the body. It also goes to
make up over 70% of the protein in skin – the body’s largest organ - which protects us and
helps to regulate our temperature. Collagen is the main building block of the skin – an
essential protein that gives skin its smoothness, elasticity, and youthful look and feel.
Collagen is found in all vertebrates but not in plants. In nature, collagen occurs exclusively in animals,
so using the term collagen in relation to plant protein is misleading (despite the fact that many
companies use the term for marketing purposes).
And although collagen is immediately associated with the skin and how it looks, it is abundant
throughout our entire body. Bones, ligaments, tendons and cartilage are made up of proteins, of
which collagen is one of the most predominant; and their strength and flexibility depend on the quality
of collagen present.
Collagen is also present in all smooth muscle tissues, blood vessels, the digestive tract, corneas, the
heart, gallbladder, kidneys and bladder… holding the cells and tissues together. Collagen is even the
major component of hair and nails.
Collagen protein is like the cement or scaffolding that holds everything together and plays an
important part in many living processes.
How collagen is formed?
Amino acids are the basic building blocks of collagen, forming peptide strands which then wind
around one another evolving into pro-collagen – which then forms more complicated fibrils, and finally
fibres. Fibres and fibrils are insoluble and play a supportive role in the body, giving its structures
strength and flexibility.
The body is constantly renewing its collagen, creating new fibres all the time. However, the
fibroblasts (cells that produce collagen fibres, found in connective tissue) become less active with
age.
Collagen fibres get thicker and easier to break, and after the age of about 25-30, the amount of
collagen they produce reduces by about 1% a year. This gradual degeneration of our collagen
accelerates over time, and we start to notice the symptoms of ageing: wrinkles, joint paints, sagging
skin, varicose veins and so on. So, the quality and quantity of collagen in our bodies can directly
affect our quality of life.
Our skin’s condition and appearance depend on the quality of the collagen fibres. Weakened collagen
fibres mean wrinkled and sagging skin.
9
Collagen Colway Training Guide 2014
For years, the beauty industry struggled to find an effective formula to slow down or even reverse the
degenerative processes. Once the link between collagen loss and ageing was proven, scientists and
beauticians turned their attention to ways of supplementing lost collagen in the body.
Originally, collagen was obtained from veal necks and used on a large scale basis in cosmetology
and aesthetic medicine.
Most collagen available on the market as supplements is so called hydrolysed collagen – in other
words, gelatine. It is produced from bovine, porcine, or fish fibres or cartilage and (because those
fibres are insoluble) it has to be processed by enzymes or temperature to break it down into digestible
chunks of protein.
Many companies claim that they use so-called ‘plant collagen’. These substitutes for animal protein
are often made from hydrolysed wheat or soya bean protein, and result in denatured simple proteins
which – like bovine collagen – are biologically inactive. This means that it cannot penetrate the skin,
making it little more than a great moisturiser that binds lots of water on the skin’s surface.
Collagen by Colway is a new generation of this essential protein. It is not made from
hydrolysed fibres; it is actually a pro-collagen, which means it has not yet turned into fibrils,
making it still soluble. It is a fish triple helix collagen (tropocollagen) that has a very similar
chemical structure to human protein, so it is easily absorbed by the body. It is biologically
active which means it is still living as protein, not destroyed by processing, but preserved in
the form that it naturally occurs in nature.
The Development of Collagen by Colway
The invention of Collagen by Colway began a new era in skincare. It’s unparalleled as an antiageing product that activates the skin’s natural renewal processes. It has a unique ability to
stimulate our own formative cells to immediately boost their collagen production, resulting in
an improved skin elasticity and smoothness – younger looking skin.
Collagen Colway doesn’t just tackle the results of ageing, such as wrinkling; it attacks the causes. No
wonder, then, that it has been known for several years as the Polish ‘elixir of youth’. It’s the only pure
and biologically active transdermal triple helix tropocollagen on the market, which means there’s
nothing else currently available that can compete with its potential and results.
Although it’s the result of advanced biotechnology, our Collagen is a very simple product that delivers
powerful yet naturally occurring ingredients. It is a new generation of collagen skincare, based on the
extraction of collagen from fish skins and preserving it as a biologically active protein, and has opened
the door to new non-invasive treatments as an alternative to painful injections and costly procedures.
Benefits of using Collagen by Colway
Our Collagen is certainly not a product for anyone looking for a quick fix. It takes time to work, and is
most effective when applied regularly. But the results are amazing! Customers using Natural Collagen
as recommended report the following benefits:
1.
2.
3.
4.
moisturisation and long-lasting, optimal hydration of the skin
improvement in skin suppleness and elasticity
smoother skin
shallower wrinkles
In 2008, laboratory studies in Warsaw (Laboratory Beauty Parlour SLB ITA –TEST) were conducted
with a group of women aged 39 to 60 who used Natural Collagen twice a day for four weeks, and the
results were impressive.

Where it comes from
Collagen extracted from the skin of fish is, without a doubt, a great discovery of Polish science –the
work of a team at the Polish School of Biochemistry which has been perfected over the course of
several years.
In the 1970s, Polish science led the field of protein extraction from marine organisms. Initial trials
were based on the extraction of protein from plankton (Antarctic krill). Polish scientists also developed
a way to extract gelatin from waste products of the seafood industry. While many other countries were
eager to pay just to get rid of their waste, the political and economic conditions in Poland at the time
meant that this unique technology was not used. And although collagen was first obtained from fish
skins in the 1980s, at the time the process could not attract the right support to make it viable. As a
result, the first collagen patent (no. 167114) was never exploited commercially until after its protected
legal status expired.
Work didn’t stop, however, and the team focused on finding an ideal fish species as a source, and on
perfecting the final filtration stage. They eventually achieved both – using salmon as a source, and
silk fibres for filtering, and with these two final developments, commercial fish collagen extraction was
finally made possible.
Initially, the collagen was difficult to market, as it needed to be stored within a strict temperature
range. Fish collagen only retains its consistency and active biological properties up to a certain
temperature, depending on the conditions under which the source fish have been raised. Salmon is a
cold water fish, so its collagen could survive only up to 15 degrees Celsius (as a comparison, human
protein survives up to 107.60F (42 degrees Celsius). There are other collagens available that can
survive up to maximum of 680 F (20 degrees Celsius) and need refrigerated storage as a result. So
while fish collagen shows high level of biocompatibility with humans, its success as a product rests
not on quality certificates or sensational clinical research, but on the way it can be stored, not only by
the producer, but by the retailer and the consumer at home.
Collagen Colway products can survive temperatures higher than 260C, yet have no preservatives or
parabens added. This is down to the high quality collagen source (silver carp, raised responsibly in
the ecologically friendly waters of the Balkans) and a technologically advanced filtration-extraction
method. The result is a collagen that can be stored without costly and inconvenient refrigeration, and
its commercial formula actually Q5-26 refers to the range of temperatures in which it can be kept to
maintain its biological activity.
Research into both source and methodology still continues, and as the market leader and innovator,
Colway is currently sponsoring studies using panga, African catfish and tropical carp; and a polymer
filtration method, which is more effective than silk.
Five simple ingredients
Collagen Colway is a water solution of pure collagen protein in the same triple helix form as found in a
living organism. It has nothing to do with injectable collagens that have been used in the beauty
industry – it’s applied to the skin twice a day, just like traditional beauty creams in the past. The good
news for people allergic to (or simply wanting to avoid) preservatives and other chemical ingredients
is that Natural Collagen contains just five simple and naturally occurring ingredients: water, collagen,
11
Collagen Colway Training Guide 2014
caprylyl glycol (a natural fatty acid found in plants, used as a moisturizing and anti-microbial agent),
elastin (another natural protein found in connective tissue) and lactic acid.
The three types of Collagen Colway and Colvita – a food supplement
Collagen Platinum is used mainly for face care as it is the purest type, containing the lowest
amount of melanin (natural skin colouring). This is because it is extracted from the skin from the
underside of the fish, which is the lightest. And as the purest form of Natural Collagen, its skin
penetrating abilities are the best, too.
It’s ideal for using before normal moisturising or regenerating creams – providing they don’t contain
zinc, acids, sulphur or alcohol, which can break down collagen before it is properly absorbed by the
skin, causing it to lose some of its biological activity.
Collagen Silver is ideal for body care (it contains more natural colouring than Platinum) – it can be
used on the entire body.
Collagen Graphite contains the most melanin (natural hair colouring), and is perfect for hair and
nails; regenerating, strengthening and stimulating hair roots and nails for better growth.
Colvita – was developed in response to demand for supplying collagen not just on the skin, but also
internally to nourish the whole body. It is the same triple helix collagen, as in Platinum, Silver and
Graphite, but especially prepared by evaporating water and adding highly valuable algae and natural
Vitamin E to serve as a top quality supplement – a source of easily absorbable source of amino acids
and other essential nutrients.

Section 4 The Collagen Colway Business Model
Market background
The direct selling business in the UK is thriving, as shopping from home becomes more and more
commonplace. In fact, there are over 70 million direct selling consumer transactions each year, worth
an average of £21 each*, and the number is growing.
*
Source: Direct Selling Association
The Collagen Colway organisation is based on a ‘network marketing’ or ‘direct selling’ model. There
are many examples of this kind of model in the market today, some (like Avon) having been around
for a very long time.
Some network marketing organisations (often where services rather than real products are involved)
have earned a poor reputation based on hard selling tactics, emotional manipulation and overpromising financial rewards and bonuses (exotic holidays and cars) to their distributors.
We at Collagen Colway are committed to running our business on an ethical basis, have a real, high
quality product supporting our commercial operations, and do not feel comfortable with nor believe
that aggressive ‘American-style’ selling tactics would work for us.
Moreover, our core values determine our network of consultants should be built in the right way. And,
as stated in our values, we want this to be a fun and enjoyable enterprise for everyone involved.
As the network of consultants builds the role of HQ will increasingly focus on the following areas:



Brand education and awareness – published material, exhibitions, digital and social media
marketing
Training – both product and business related through seminars, webinars and video
Network building – ensuring the infrastructure is robust and sound to support the business –
distribution centres, availability of marketing materials etc
How it all works - in outline
Typically our network expands through introductions (referrals). By far the most likely source of new
consultants and customers is through Collagen Colway parties. These are planned events, led by
existing Collagen Colway consultants who invite guests to a social event which features a
demonstration of our collagen products. As well as being a fun social event it is likely that products
will be sold and some guests will express an interest in also becoming Collagen Colway consultants.
In this way teams can be built and those who start to build their own networks in this way can
potentially reap significant additional financial rewards. The more events there are the faster the
network will expand.
There are of course other ways in which a network can be built including; personal referral or
introduction, positive responses to business promotion seminars (in contrast to social parties) and
direct responses to other marketing initiatives (including social media and other digital marketing
activities). But we have found from our experience that planned party events are the most effective
way of building a network.

Examples
Product sales
As a Distributor, if you sell £250-worth of products to customers, those products will only have cost
you £187.50 to purchase (after 25% discount). So, you will earn £62.50
As a Manager, when you sell £250-worth of products to customers, those same products will have
only cost you £150 (after 40% discount) to purchase, so you will earn as much as £100 (which means
you’ll have £37.50 more in your pocket than if you were a Distributor).
Managing a small team
As a qualified Manager with a team of ten Distributors, you would receive 40% on your own sales,
and 5% on each of your team’s sales.
So when every member of your team sells £250-worth of product, you would benefit from your own
discount (£100), plus 5% commission on each of their sales ex VAT. For example if you have a team
of 10 (including yourself as you get paid commission on your sales as well): 10 x £10.416), which is
£104.16.
To qualify for that your Central Team (Generation 1) sales must exceed £864 for a calendar month,

Collagen Colway Training Guide 2014
So, as a qualified Manager with just 10 active Distributors in your team (including yourself), when you
all sell just £250 each in one month, here’s how your Manager earnings add up:
Personal discount
Central Team Bonus
£100.00
£104.16
Total
£204.16
Remember, this is just the beginning, just you and nine friends. Add more people to your team, and
start them recruiting too, and you’ll see your earnings grow faster. Month after month after month.
There’s no secret to this success!
The simple key to driving this growth is by consistent selling and recruiting; and by supporting your
own team in doing the same. We - and your own Manager - will provide you with training to help you;
all you need is to be willing to talk to people and share what you know. When your team Distributors,
with some guidance from you, do what they see you doing, you’ll have achieved the replication that
makes direct sellers successful.

Section 5 Being a Collagen Colway Consultant
Understand your goals!
We want you to enjoy being a Collagen Colway consultant. However, to be successful in building a
meaningful second income or even a small business from this you will need to understand your goals
and structure your sales and marketing activity, with the objective of building your own network. Don’t
worry – for those of you who may be nervous of this we will provide support and training (see
SECTION 6)
As a Consultant you will learn all about the products, how to demonstrate and sell them effectively.
There are 3 very important questions that your Manager will ask:
1. How much do you want to earn?
2. When do you want to achieve that?
3. How much time can you spend on your business?
Give yourself some time so that you can answer those questions realistically. Being clear of your
vision and goals are important. Are you saving for a holiday? Trying to pay off a credit card bill?
Saving for further education? Or maybe you want to make this a life changing experience and turn
your association with Collagen Colway in to a small business?
Whatever your goals and objectives they need to be planned for to ensure they become achievable.
And we at Collagen Colway are committed to helping you make it happen!
Know your products & grow your network
In essence the bigger and more active your network the higher the financial rewards will be. Part of
this will be the margin you will earn on supplying product to your network and part will be the
commission you will earn from network sales.
There are several key steps to building a meaningful second income or small business with Collagen
Colway:
1) Get to know the products well
2) Learn the basics of sales & marketing
3) Build your own network of consultants
Fast start
See Appendices ( 1) 3 easy steps to get you up and running) to see the 3 easy steps to get you up
and running really quickly.
Getting started – what will I need?
To get started only a minimal investment will be required. Effectively you only need 5 things – they
are:
1) Get to know the products well
20
Collagen Colway Training Guide 2014
Your success is directly related to the number of people who will see and try your products. Also
you are your most important customer – you have to use the products yourself in order to actively
promote them and to be credible in what you are saying about them. This is why you need some
products. The effectiveness of your selling effort will be SIGNIFFICANTLY raised if your
customers can SEE, TOUCH, SMELL, and TRY the products.
You can choose which products you want to start with – try yourself and show it to your potential
customers. You have a choice of any products you like.
However, tried, tested and recommended sets ideal for new consultants are:
I.
Collagen Graphite and Scrub – this set is perfect for a quick and effective demonstration
on one hand to see the difference.
II.
Collagen Platinum, Wash Gel, Scrub – this is a basic set to try how Collagen works on
the face
III.
Collagen Skin Care Set with a FREE Wash Gel – a special offer for new distributors to
help them get on the fast track. It is available only to new distributors as their first
purchase in their first month. It’s a great value for money set which equips you with all
you need for a successful Collagen Party.
2) A computer - you will need this to engage in social media to actively promote your business,
set a business e-mail account so you can send newsletters and other promotional material to
your customers or potential customers, and also take part in on-line training via videos and
webinars.
3) A phone – you will need this to tell everyone that you have just started an excellent business
and you have awesome products to show them.
4) A diary - “Failing to plan is planning to fail” Allen Lakein. With your manager, whose aim is to
help you, you must plan your meetings and demonstrations in your first months, and monitor
your weekly and monthly goals. If you do not put the dates in the diary, most likely things will
not happen and you will not achieve your goal(s).
5) Training – this is vital. You need to book your first training session with your manager as
soon as possible. It is their job to teach you the basics of the business. In particular they will
cover:






Collagen Colway’s products and how different they are from other products on the
market
How to demonstrate the products
How to sell
How to get referrals from your happy customers
How to book more demonstrations
How to recruit and build your own network
In addition to what you can learn from your manager Collagen Colway is committed to
providing learning resources and materials centrally. Please ensure you get the maximum out
of this by attending as many on-line webinars organised by the Company as you can,
watching the on-line training videos and attending any local seminars.
21

Knowledge can be a powerful thing and communication is essential. You will receive a
monthly newsletter each month detailing activities and any technical updates.
We love to hear from you, so make sure you let us know about all the things you are doing
because it’s great to share. By working collaboratively we can all learn from each other.
Learn the basics of sales & marketing
Build a network
To get the most from being a Collagen Colway Consultant you will need to build a network.
There are different ways of doing this but it is likely to be the result of 3 elements
1) Hosting Collagen Colway parties – these are social events organised by Collagen Colway
consultants that feature and demonstrate collagen products and introduce the potential to
guests of becoming a consultant
2) Social media – talk about collagen products, events, and the business opportunity on
platforms such as Facebook
3) Networking – there are many business and other networking groups you can join to try to
boost your own network
See Appendices ( 7)The easy way to get to 100 contacts) to find out how easy it is to build a list of
100 contacts – this is a great way for identifying people you want to invite to your first party!
To maximise your impact you will need to plan your sales & marketing activities well ahead. Almost
certainly you will need a programme of parties pre-booked in to the diary for a number of months
ahead. The frequency of how many parties, and how much social media and networking activity you
undertake is down to you. But, you won’t be surprised to hear, your financial rewards will be directly
related to how much marketing and sales activity you are doing
How to host a party
When hosting a party there are 3 elements to consider
1) The preparation and marketing of the event
2) Ensuring the venue is properly set up , the audience has a great experience of collagen
products and the opportunity to become a consultant is highlighted and discussed towards the
end of the event
3) Follow-up
Detailed instructions on how to run a party event from beginning to end including a suggested ‘script’
can be found in the Appendices ( 9)How to run a party from beginning to end)
Power Start
Depending on your goals and how much time you have decided to allocate to being a Collagen
Colway consultant you can either start at your own pace OR you can kick off your business doing
POWER START.
22
Collagen Colway Training Guide 2014
For POWER START all you need to do is to have 30 new people TRY Collagen Products within 30
days.
It will skyrocket your sales from the beginning and you will see how successful you can be which will
motivate you to achieve more.
You are not asked to achieve x number of sales – all you need to do is to find 30 new faces to try out
collagen. It works!
You will not only start seeing the results quicker but once you complete the Challenge you will be
rewarded with a pearl necklace or a Parker pen as a thank you for your effort.

Section 6 Training and Support
Have confidence in the product & yourself
Many people that start a network marketing or direct sales business are not confident about it.
Without support and training this can turn into a negative mind set.
It’s important to remember that people do funny, sometimes painful, and outrageous things to look
better or younger. You have a fantastic solution to people’s problems – a natural, safe, and easy to
understand product, which can improve the looks of their skin.
When you try Collagen Colway’s products and when you see the positive results you will acquire a
clarity of purpose and confidence that will enable you to sell. Remember – you are your best
customer. If you are happy with our products then, in all likelihood, many others will experience the
same effects.
Collagen Colway’s commitment to training & support
Beyond these important ‘truths’ Collagen Colway is committed to providing the necessary support to
enable its consultants to achieve their goals.
The training and support is focused on two main areas:
1) Product knowledge and treatment techniques
2) Basic business essentials – including sales & marketing and planning
Training and support is delivered in the following ways:
1)
2)
3)
4)
Direct support from manager
On line webinars and seminars
Local seminar events
Written material ( e-letters and e-books)
