Mrs. Bryant is always willing to co-plan and co-teach lessons, research, literacy stations, and technology
based instruction in my classroom. We have already implemented CScope instruction together this
year and have collaborated many times to accomplish Techfusion goals. We plan to collaborate
many more times throughout the year. She is also managing a DestiNation Imagination team and we
will be working together to provide engaging higher level learning. Our librarian, Ms. Bryant is an
invaluable resource and support at our school. No only does she get to know and engage our
students but she creates positive relationships with parents, encouraging their involvement. She also
seeks to and positively impacts the learning of our students. She provides us with materials we need,
but also checks with us and suggests additional helpful tools.

She inspired me by telling me that you can write anything and don’t let anybody stop you from living your
dreams.
She was so funny I hope we have another author like her again.
I liked how Dianne de las Cassas was reading. It was cool how she remembered every book that she
made! The way she inspired my writing was expression and making “thoughtshots” and snapshots!
One thing that I want to do was read another one of her books I love her boks!
Thank you Mrs. Camp for making this all possible, for Dianne de las Casas come to Benfer Elementary!!!!
It was a really cool performance! She was really dramatic. (But in a good way.) She was really funny too. I

Thanks, we love coming here it's so colorful!
I didn't know the library offered databases that could help me study for tests online. That's pretty cool.
How did you find that?
This is where I check my email & Facebook every day, so I'm glad that you have free PC access.
Love, Love, Love the storytimes!
This library is an indispensable part of this community. It offers so many resources that I and others would
not otherwise have access to, such as Internet services, research materials, general reading
materials in book and audio formats, as well as entertainment in the form of DVDs and CDs. This
library branch has become my main source of pleasure and entertainment, particularly since our
nation’s economic downturn. I know that I am not alone in viewing it as one of this community’s
greatest treasures.
Barbara Bush Library has the resources I can’t afford at home, and I am very appreciative for this.
On my new job search, I find that the library acts as an “office” for me that is more conducive for me to get
stuff done.
I love the children’s programs. My daughter is inspired to read and socialize. Story time is the highlight of
her week!
I am so indebted to the library. With their help, I’ve been able to help my 3-year old learn to read
approximately 20 words. I am also able to do my own coursework. I am so very grateful for such a
place as this with friendly and knowledgeable staff. It’s also helped my three-year old learn how to
work on a computer. It gives another learning tool by having PC’s for kids. We don’t have a computer
at home, so her being able to use it here is not only a big treat, but as a parent I know she won’t be at
a disadvantage when school begins. Between the workbook to help me homeschool, the books we
read for fun, story time (in English and Spanish), and access to Internet on a PC, my daughter is
“advanced.” THANK YOU LIBRARY!
"I love coming to the library because its [sic] fun to come here and chill!"

available at the circulation desk. Each question was geared to have them use a library skill such as:
use the OPAC and locate a book in the stacks or online if it was an eBook, use the databases and find
an article using either an accession number, A-to-Z, or keyword search in some cases. The students
submitted their entry and the winners were drawn just before Halloween. Prizes included: VIP parking

the contests!
For Snap Shot Day we also put up a Dia de los Muertos Altar/Display. We mentioned this to faculty, staff
& students so that they could bring pictures and help us celebrate the Day of the Dead. I spoke to
faculty and students about transcultural communication, cultural sensitivity, ethnocultural perspectives
as well of end-of-life health care. I even had several faculty mention that they would like to coordinate
an assignment next year in combination with the annual display.

The library has been a beehive of activity this week. In the evening, National Honor society reception. I
convinced our PV not to hold TAKS retake testing in the library, so we had 3 displaced classes each
period, as well as walk-ins. We were celebrating homecoming also this week, so we had countless
students getting butcher paper and hall decorating supplies. We also have offices for our Speech
Therapist, Dyslexia teacher, 3 Inclusion teachers and the Instructional Technology Specialists which
generate many walk ins.
Our high school as two library spaces and only one librarian and one library assistant to run both. We are
a school of 3000 students and 200 staff members. The data collected was only from one of the
libraries as we did not have the staff to collect data in both areas (both were used on the snapshot day
though.)
The library had a decorated van in the Trunk and Treat event in the school parking lot from 4:30 pm to
5:30 pm. I met a lot of the parents and now they know who the librarian is. I would guess that 450
people showed up.
It was a great day! Not as busy as usually are due to the book parade. The last two scheduled classes
did not come for circulation.
We're very pleased to be able to serve our patrons and community.
Our students love our library but want more access to computers and books.
With the state of the economy we are seeing more and more people (many with limited computer skills)
who need to use our computers for online employment applications. A few people have had to cut
their home Internet service due to money issues and so use the public library for any Internet access
they need.
A total of 33 surveys were returned by patrons, five (5) in Spanish. In response to “What did you do at the
Library Today?” The breakdown is as follows:
6 Coursework / homework / tutoring
7 Research
3 Asked for help with questions or technology
6 Newspapers / magazines
4 Attended a program or meeting
10 Internet or computer use
3 Online library resources and databases
2 Health information
2 Business information
2 Certification and/or test-taking
4 Job seeking / resume building
4 Entertainment
2 General reference
1 Filled out online government forms
3 Other: Turn in books, Check out Movies
In response to “What would be the impact on you if your library was not able to offer you the services
available now?”
 Tremendous impact on me since I count on using the computers
 This would not be good. They should continue serving us with all the services.
 I would be kind of sad
 It would be a huge impact for me. It is the only place that I have to bring my children to use the
computers.
 My opinion is that it would be a negative impact.
 Without the Laredo Public Library I would not know what to do. It is very important to have it.
Students earned 891.3 Accelerated Reader points on Snapshot Day
Some of the empty blanks on this form only mean that our stat collecting does not allow us to separate the
data at this early stage.
This year's Snapshot happened to fall on the one weekday that we don't have literacy or ESL tutoring. It
also happened to be a day with a computer class that doesn't bring in as many people as other
classes.
Our Snapshot Day was fun as our students enjoyed the Read for the Record book and shared in helping
set a world record for the number of readers on that day.
830 students heard the story on October 4.
The library is coordinating the Book It! program and the 40 Book Challenge. The 40 Book Challenge is a
challenge to all staff and students to read 40 books of varying genres.
Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen occurrences and last minute changes, our chosen Snapshot Day
didn't reflect the 9 students who came in for our book club (called "The Read Crew" to encompass
ALL readers, not just fiction chapter book readers) the day before.
Our school library is truly the hub of learning on our campus. We support every part of the curriculum,
technology integration, and the promotion of literacy. We have begun a new initiative on our campus
to reach our students who are literate, but choose not to read on their own. We have a dozen
activities that are on-going or upcoming to improve literacy! It's a dynamic place to learn!
Please add a check box for joint libraries - We serve academic and public here! Thanks.
Good opportunity on knowing what actually take place on a given day in the life of our library.
I am the jack of all trades. Love my job but, don't know how much longer I can support 10 hour work days
with little support from district.
The Acoustical Bluegrass Jam is always on the 2nd Friday of the month, however, a few musicians enjoy
getting together other Fridays when our community room is empty. We did this on October 26th.
LSC-CyFair Branch Library is joint use library between the Lone Star College System and Harris County
Public Library.
We are an Early voting location – 2607 voters on 10/29/12
This ended up being a very unusually quiet day for the library. The school had been under lockdown the
day before, and there were two fights in the morning, so I'm guessing teachers were reluctant to let
students out. Note to self: have snapshot day on a day other than Halloween.
Our branch has been hosting early voting, which has brought in quite a few more members of the public
who wouldn't normally traffic the library. Much of that traffic has benefited fundraising efforts of our
Friends of the Library group, who have a used bookstore near the meeting room where the public is
voting. This was the case as well for Library Snapshot Day, 10/31/12. We hope to have gained a few
more customers thanks to early voting.
Next year we may participate on a non-clinical day because when our students are in healthcare facilities
for the day, the library is a little less attended.
Also, found that we do not have a way to count usage statistics for online resources on a daily basis - may
need to change that.
On the previous question, "Public use of computers and internet." The number that I entered is for
students that come from classroom to independently work on Math3000, but they are under my
"watch."
For the first time we also took the surveys to the outreach patrons that the bookmobile visits. They were
pleased to get the opportunity to comment.
The Hits to the Webpage needs some clarification. We can do total page views, total targeted views, and
total visits.
We collected several surveys, both English and Spanish. However, customers felt reading needed to be
one of the choices. We had them enter it under Other.
On any given day there are a variety of things going on in my library.
Daily classes are held to instruct students on library skills, technology, history, celebrations, and more.
Competitions, receptions, workshops, trainings, celebrations and meetings are conducted in here as well.
Leaders and members of the community are invited to participate in various reading events throughout the
year to encourage our students.
Teachers are encouraged to utilize the resources available, to share a need that can be added to the
library, and I am always on the lookout for helpful and useful websites and resources for my faculty.
I love being a librarian as Jackie Mims Hopkins states.
This is a very hard thing to do most days because when it is busy, I cannot remember everything I did or
keep track of the drop-ins, classes, teachers, etc. who come for assistance in the library.
I love doing Library Snapshot Day on October 31st. I decorate the library and give special Halloween
bookmarks and a little toy treat. The students really enjoy celebrating Library Snapshot on
Halloween. It's the perfect combination of two special events!!!
Some days are almost too busy in the library. I love it when everyone uses the library, but some days get
hectic.
The day was full from before school until after school helping patrons, teaching lessons, and working
collaboratively. My full-time aide worked all day circulating books, shelving, and assisting with some
reference questions. We only sat down for lunch.
I think it went pretty well. We didn't really plan much for snapshot day this year, but we might to do some
activities around it next year.
In addition to our extended hour family night this year, we hosted a "Fright Night" for students. We hired a
storyteller to tell scary stories and students were encouraged to wear costumes. We played
Halloween theme music and gave out door prizes. We had 75 students and a few teachers attend and
most were in costume. The stories were fantastic and truly scary. The kids loved it. Our Fright Night
boosted our book fair sales by over $400! It was well worth it!
The lack of a healthy library collection (quantity and age) is an incredibly frustrating issued.
The lack of librarians to serve 1000 students and support staff is an indication of the lack of understanding
by legislators and principals. Throwing money at testing is wasteful and only tells the teachers what
they already know; the majority of students can't read. Set up great libraries and this problem will go
away. Much less expensive and much more pleasing to the humans in the building, young and old.
Even though our library is operating with only two staff members (two librarians) when we used to have
two librarians and two aides, we are optimistic that we will have a productive year.
Our students love to come to the library! We have an open door policy; we're open before school, during
lunch, and after school. The kids are very disappointed if we have to close for testing, meetings, etc.
Our circulation stats are very high. I attribute this to the fact that the students are always welcome and
to the shelving of our fiction by genre.
I love doing Snapshot Day because I get so many comments from the students who are otherwise pretty
quiet and might not have shared their thoughts without the opportunity that Snapshot Day affords.
We celebrated great readers with lunch and new books
Here are some selected numbers from the 94 surveys we collected that asked what patrons did at the
library:
62 patrons did coursework
46 patrons did research
13 patrons asked for reference help
66 patrons used computers
33 patrons used online library resources and databases
24 patrons came for entertainment
This was an interesting, wonderful experience and we look forward to doing it again next year. Thank you.
I had thirteen students in for early checkout today.
I had an early morning meeting with the teachers and GT coordinator to discuss the timeline of TPSP
projects. I am setting up times for students to visit me in the library for help and guidance.
1. Finalized list of 260 books for deletion
2. Prepared Cyberbullying video to show to 9th grade during PSAT day
3. Checked 5 accounts for students withdrawing
4. Updated overdue/report card hold list for office
5. Prepared and read reviews for new book order lists
6. Prepared survey for Learning Management System so students can vote on favorite book
electronically
7. Added 2 new students to LMS
8. Reset 2 Gaggle passwords/ Helped students create Gaggle account
9. Collaborated with English teachers- sent steps to find Library folders on LMS along with helpful
websites. Found Electoral Map for History teacher to use with students through Britannica
10. Changed out the Visual Thesaurus SAT word of the week
We proctor exams, provide notary public service, and we take telephone, email, Facebook, and face-toface reference questions, and we teach eReader basics to anyone who walks in.
This is a 2 person job, and I am only 1 person trying to do it all (teach/manage). I enjoy every aspect of my
job tasks, but it is wearing me down, and it is difficult to do a good job in everything.
The Texas Library Snapshot Day was an eye-opening experience! I knew that I had a busy library
program before, but after collecting the data I am surprised about how busy this library truly is. Thank you
for this opportunity!
The City of Presidio library plays a vital role in the community as a resource, recreational center for all the
community members to enjoy. Presidio is a border community with Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico we
also provide services to our neighboring Country as teachers from Mexico use our libraries resources.
The public access computers are used daily by all children and their parents who do not and cannot
afford the internet at home or have a computer available to them. The computers are used, for home
work research, parents seeking employment, filing out applications for immigration etc. we provide a
service to all seeking assistance to better their way of life. We are very fortunate to have a community
library in Presidio, being a rural isolated community our resources are somewhat limited in our
community so the library is a vital place.
Librarian Comments about Snapshot Day
Snapshot Day has been a fun activity Gilbreath Memorial Library has participated in since TLA began the
Snapshot Day. Thanks for making it fun TLA!
Great idea. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to express themselves about the library.
The Library Snapshot Day provides a good opportunity to promote library services. We are looking
forward to participate in future events.
Again, thank you for doing this it is a great way to touch base with our patrons and hear what they have to
say and at the same time provide find out how we are doing.
We're a small campus of 270 9th and 10th grade students. Each day we serve more than 60% of our
population.
I think this is a great advocacy tool and we should continue.
I would think it would be interesting to compile the patron reported library usage data from the Snapshot
Day surveys. I was surprised that information wasn't asked for in these results. For example, our
results (of 87 in-person and 7 online surveys) Coursework - 6; Research- 20; Help with Technology13; Periodicals-24; Programs/Meetings-10; Internet/Computer Use - 40; Online databases - 17;
Health information - 5; Business information - 9; Certification/test-taking - 1; Job Seeking - 14;
Entertainment -23; General Reference - 8; Online Govt. Forms - 6; OTHER: Read Books; Check out
books; e-library; Return books; Microfilm, Museum; Applied for College; Chat on Computer; Family
and Friends on computer; Email; Check out tapes; Check out DVDs; Get Library Card. Online
OTHER: Check out e-books; Plan visit to library; Pick up reserve e-books To me, this data gives a
bigger "snapshot" than just door count, hits, etc.
Thank you for the survey tools. This was very informative.
Please make information on future Snapshot Day events available earlier.
I enjoyed planning the day and the events that brought our parents and students in to decorate the library
with Storybook pumpkins and enjoy our new Ebook collection presentations.
Snapshot Day was fun for my school.
I am still amazed that "checking out materials" has not been added to the list of "things you did at the
library today." This is an obvious thing for most people to add under "other", and our customers feel
we are stupid for having left this off the list. Are we somehow embarrassed that we still check out
books???
Nothing to add.
I think Librarians needs to continue advocating for our profession. Please continue to promote Snapshot
Day!
I didn't realize that I could access the questions on this form without answering them. I should have done
that so that I would be better prepared as to what information you were gathering.
I continue to add a category for "checked out materials" since nothing on the list of activities seems to
clearly reflect that activity.
I did a tally sheet to help my staff keep track (only showing the questions they needed to tally). That
helped a lot.
Thank you for helping us with our advocacy efforts.
Provide incentives such as digital cameras or other devices as rewards for participating. Then those can
be used to capture future years.
I really think this is a good way to unite libraries across the state and help fight cuts not just to libraries, but
education in general.
Process is great!
Offer a one stop shopping area of all (national/international) research past, present, and future that
supports healthy library programming and its relationship to test scores. Our librarians are gathering
this together, but how simple this would be if all research was gathered together in one place by topic
and results with links.
Create a video upload.
I am new to doing this. I like taking one day just to see what all we really do offer at the library and what
our patrons think of us and the programming.
This exercise is a great way to remind patrons, staff, volunteers, and support groups what a vibrant role
we play in the community!
This was fantastic!
The library is the place to be we have the resources available that many of our community members do
not have or cannot afford to purchase for their homes with our economy and our high unemployment
in this area we offer books for information, reference, periodicals, newspapers, computers and a very
nice facility for all to enjoy.
