Required Supplies Loose-leaf paper Binder Blue or black pens, red pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, highlighter Calculator Student Responsibilities Attend class regularly and keep an accurate and organized set of notes. These notes will be needed for study and work purposes throughout the year as well as quiz and test preparation. If a student misses a class for any reason, it is the responsibility of the student to make sure that they get a copy of all notes that were missed and to obtain any missed homework or assignments so that they may be completed and corrected. Behave in a way that promotes a proper learning environment. Homework Students are expected to work hard to complete work within class time. Students are expected to complete unfinished work and to periodically review for tests and quizzes. Daily work can be tracked on the teacher’s website. Parents: please check that your child is completing his/her work and reviewing weekly. In the lab, students must follow all rules and listen to the teacher at all times. Lab safety wear must be worn as per teacher’s instructions and students must never drink or tastes anything out of lab equipment. All students are expected to stay at their stations and must clean up their work area. Students are not allowed in the back room of the lab without teacher permission and direct supervision! Persistent misbehaviour or extremely dangerous behaviour in the lab will result in the student(s) removal from the lab. Assessment Providing descriptive and constructive feedback to children and involving them in selfassessment, record keeping, and communication about their learning is called assessment “for” learning. Assessment “for” learning helps students understand whether they need to improve their learning and how they might improve it. Sometimes students are provided with evaluative feedback, which tells the learner how she or he has performed compared to what was to be learned. This is also called assessment “of” learning and may be reported using letters, numbers, or other symbols on a report card or within a grading period. Using a balanced approach, both Formative and Summative Assessments will be performed throughout the year through: Observations; Student Products; Student Self Assessments; Conversations; tests; quizzes; lab reports, etc.
