St Mellitus College Liverpool Cathedral Application for new training provision for candidates for ordained ministry St Mellitus College, in partnership with Liverpool Cathedral, is proposing to offer another site for delivery of its ‘Full-time Church-Based Ordination training’. This pathway has been delivered in London for the past four years attracting an increasing number of ordinands each year. Candidates will be ‘full-time’ but not residential. The pathway is not designed for part-time study alongside a normal ‘secular’ job, so should not compete with local ‘Course’ training provision. It offers local delivery of an established, popular and effective training pathway through a recognised training institution with extensive expertise in delivery of ‘Mixed Mode’ ordination training. It will enable candidates to stay in the North West region for fulltime training, an option which is not possible at present. It focuses on preparing stipendiary clergy for missional and church planting roles in the future and understanding the dynamics of growing churches. Candidates would be based within a parish or mission context for at least two days a week, with another two days a week (at least) for academic study and formational learning. One of those days will be a weekly gathering of the cohort for intensive teaching in Liverpool Cathedral, delivered through a blend of local teachers and teaching delivered via video link from London. This day will offer both more ‘academic’ teaching and formational and practical training in theological reflection and leadership. They will also join other St Mellitus ordinands from across the Anglican traditions for seven residential weekends and a residential week each year. They will study for a FdA or BA in Theology and Ministry through Middlesex University.
