SCHOLARSHIPS GUIDELINES
Each year, the National Engineer’s Week Committee of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties (NEWC-VSB) awards scholarships to
a select group of students attending a 2 or 4 year college in the region who are working towards an engineering degree. The
scholarship committee looks for engineering students who they consider are exemplary examples of the future of the engineering
profession. Last year seven scholarships of $1000 each were awarded out of 40 applicants.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
All engineering students are eligible (regardless of need) but the following minimum requirements must be met:

A.
The applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited two or four-year college or university in Ventura or
Santa Barbara counties.
B.
The applicant must be studying towards an engineering or technical degree related to engineering. If the
applicant’s college or university does not offer an engineering program, then a course of study preparatory to
engineering will be accepted.
C.
The applicant must have maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or better in college level courses.
D.
An applicant does not need to have a sponsor to be considered.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
ALL SUBMITTALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
Extra consideration is provided to early submittals. Plan ahead.
All applications must be submitted in digital format (PDF, WORD or GDOC). We do not accept
handwritten Applications. We expect that all engineering students have access to a computer. Download
the MSWORD DOC file and type in your responses. If submitting digitally, we accept only DOC,
DOCX, GDOC or PDF formats.
We will accept digital Applications (DOC, DOCX, GDOC or PDF), Letters of Recommendations (PDF
only) and Secure Digital Transcripts (PDF only) emailed to newc.scholarships@gmail.com

Include in your scholarship submission:

This Application Form. For maximum points, please answer all questions. Answer all sections. If emailed to
the Scholarship Committee, we accept only DOC, DOCX, GDOC or PDF files.
B.
An official college Academic Transcript. Official Transcripts must be in sealed envelope or a Secure Digital
Transcript can be emailed. Include those from all colleges previously attended if a transfer student. Copies
(including electronic). Unofficial copies are not accepted. Since freshman students may not have completed
their first semester by the Due Date, we request a copy of their high school transcript.
C.
A PERSONAL Letter of Recommendation (on letterhead - if applicable) from non-relative. Delivered in a
sealed envelope or PDF copy emailed.

Plan ahead. The deadline for receiving all documents is Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
SELECTION PROCESS
Selections will be based on student’s overall academic progress, extracurricular activities, leadership skills, and
participation in community activities. Other factors to be considered are engineering projects completed or
participated in, financial need and evidence of professional promise.
IV.
NOTICE OF AWARDS
Winning students will be notified by e-mail of selection results.
V.
PRESENTATION OF AWARDS
The scholarship awards will be presented at the annual NEWC-VSB banquet to be held Thursday evening,
February 25, 2016 at the The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. Attendance is not mandatory
but desirable. Every scholarship recipient is offered a free seat at the banquet. Family and friends may attend at a
special rate.
