Originally built in 1924 at the Lantern Lane Apartments, the Mediterranean Style historic building was redeveloped as
The Birchwood beginning in 2012, and officially open for business in June of 2013. The Birchwood is a refreshing mix of historical character, warmth and modern casual elegance - a true reflection of St. Petersburg. Nuances of the original building can be found in many historical design aspects of the building and décor.
As tribute to his father, Chuck Prather, a second-generation developer, chose The Birchwood name to honor his father’s earliest development project, a residential neighborhood in Sevierville, Tennessee called Birchwood. A gorgeous 12-by-24-foot mural of a birch forest adorns the southern exterior of the building.
The Birchwood is central to many popular cultural and leisure activities:
A 2 minute walk to the meandering waterfront sidewalk that spans for miles both north and south of the downtown area along Tampa Bay and Coffee Pot Bayou
Across Beach Drive from The Museum of Fine Art
One block south of The Chihuly Collection
A 10 minute walk to the gorgeous Dali' Museum, the renowned Mahaffey Theater, and the moving Holocaust
Museum.
Also within a short walking distance are the Morean Art Center, Muvico Theaters, the Island Ferry offering semi-private discovery tours of sunsets, beautiful beaches and dolphins, and the local Saturday Morning
Market.
The Birchwood won the Tampa NAIOP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association) Best of the Best award for Best Rehab Project of 2013.
