SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
BIRCHWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOLS
1) Applicant must be a senior in the Birchwood Public School displaying commendable academic
record, showing initiative in other areas, and possessing potential to academic and personal
growth after graduation.
2) This application is used to assess a student’s qualification for a variety of scholarships. Some of
these scholarships accentuate academic achievement. Others are awarded for characteristics
such as community service, leadership, athleticism, work habits, or any combination of the
above. Some of the awards are intended for those students who are going onto college, with “no
strings attached”. In other words, the recipient may use them for any purpose they wish.
3) All parts of applications must be typed, except for signatures.
4) The Birchwood School Scholarship Committee will make the award selections. This committee
may include all staff members of the Birchwood Public School.
5) There are several community service organizations in the area who use this application to award
their own scholarships. By submitting this application you are agreeing to the release of some
school records to these organizations.
6) Deadline for this application is Monday, March 17th. The completed applications should be
turned into Mrs. Nehring by 3:30 pm on that day.

Required Application Materials
1) Please complete the attached document (maximum 2 pages, font 11), it can be formatted in any way but
should remain in this order, please make sure it is professional and your name should appear on all pages.
2) Please write a 1 page essay identifying your career/vocational goals, what you were involved in in high
school, why service is important and how you have demonstrated that. And any other information which
you believe makes you a worthy scholarship recipient.
3) Two letters of recommendation from school staff members or members of the community who are
familiar with your accomplishments. DO NOT include recommendations from family members

of your transcript.
