Job Purpose

This role reports directly to the Head of Business Growth and will focus on
delivering expansion projects, which will lead to significant job creation across
the project area, as well as overseeing the delivery of key corporate
programmes and relationships with commercial partners that generate
sustained and incremental commercial income for the company. A rigorous
performance management framework will support these objectives, requiring
a highly motivated and engaging individual to ensure they are met.

A role with a high degree of client-facing responsibility and line management
responsibilities, the successful candidate will preferably have relevant and
proven experience of providing or promoting a service within one or more of
Birmingham’s target sectors; Business, Professional and Financial Services,
ITEC, Advanced Engineering, Life Sciences and Food & Drink.

This role will be instrumental in delivering Marketing Birmingham’s Investor
Development programme and its alignment with the Commercial Partnership
programme with support from the Investment Director and Head of Business
Growth.

The successful candidate will need to be a visible and credible ambassador
for Birmingham and support the organisational efforts to attract and secure
inward investment. They will also be able to demonstrate how they have
delivered an intelligence-lead sales process and achieved results leading in
the area of business to business sales.
Key Accountabilities

Support the Head of Business Growth in delivering the strategic objectives
related to the Investor Development programme

Manage in conjunction with the Investment Director and Head of Business
Growth delivery of commercial targets related to the Commercial Partnerships
programme
Job profile

Line manage one Business Development Executive within the team

Work with the Investment Director and Head of Business Growth to deliver a
strategic business development plan to ensure incremental revenue increase
in line with company objectives and a cross-fertilisation of business support,
supply chain and partnership programmes

Proactively lead on identifying and effecting new commercial revenue
opportunities and platforms, recruiting new members and partners to agreed
sectors and targets, involving the marketing team where appropriate

Implement the strategy as defined by the Head of Business Growth to identify
and secure inward investment expansion jobs for the area within clearly
defined timeframes, refining as trends or themes develop

Engage with existing employers in a consistent, structured manner to develop
ongoing relationships based on regular and relevant contact and drawing on a
“virtual team” as required to provide bespoke support to investors

Liaise with UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and the Department for
Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) in relation to engagement with
organisations listed as strategic FDI employer accounts residing in our region

Regularly represent Marketing Birmingham professionally at key business
events and actively raise the profile of Marketing Birmingham and stakeholder
benefits at all times

Manage operational delivery of commercial targets related to commercial
partnership programmes and lead on delivery of agreed commercial targets
through securing partnership packages in support of key corporate
programmes such as MIPIM and Expo Real

Lead on review and evaluation of all stakeholder sales activity and provide
the senior management team with information to assist the performance
measurement of commercial activity



partnerships, motivate, enthuse and drive individuals.

Excellent communication and presentational skills, with the ability to
communicate ideas, issues, systems and procedures successfully at all levels to
a variety of audiences.

Highly developed negotiating skills with the ability to influence decision-makers at
the highest level.

Proven ability to operate with a range of decision makers and structure detailed
solutions to their requirements.

Commercially aware, credible and able to build relationships with senior staff
across the private and public sector.

Must be educated to degree level or equivalent.
Experience
Essential Criteria

A strong record of b2b sales and business development within target markets.

A successful track record of securing commitment and/or investment from a
range of businesses.

Evidence of success as an organisational ambassador.
Desirable criteria

Evidence of success in motivating people and brokering collaborative working
relationships with a range of key stakeholders, including engagement with local
communities, building partnerships across traditional organisational and sector
boundaries.

Evidence of successful promotion/implementation of joint venture partnerships
within the public/private sectors.


Articulate, energetic and able to translate broad objectives into delivering real
outcomes.

