HORNET HERALD Harvey Green Elementary School 42875 Gatewood St. (510) 656-6438 January 2016 No. 5 Principal’s Message Dear Parents, There will be many rainy days ahead, so please plan to wait patiently in line and leave home a few minutes early. The MPR will be open on very cold and rainy days for students to wait inside from 8:15-8:30. The traffic tends to be much more congested on rainy days creating unsafe situations for students in the parking area. Please be extra cautious!! Please remember however that there is NO SUPERVISION for students before 8:20. There are many students arriving before 8:15 a.m., and they are unsupervised. From 8:20-8:30 students are monitored by teachers on the playground. When the tan bark is frosted over, students are not allowed to play on the structure as the equipment and ground is very slippery. Thank you to all the parent and student volunteers who made the Cookies and Cocoa with Santa a huge success. We had standing room only for the winter program, at which many of our students showed off some amazing talents and skills. I am looking forward to a great basketball season with Coach Fontes. Our students have been practicing hard in preparation, so please come and show your support as ALL our games are away. On rainy days, teams will be practicing in the MUR. We have many clubs beginning in 2016, keep an eye out for flyers with more information! Happy New Year to all! Sincerely, Clara Lee From the Department of Child Nutrition Services (CNS) School Lunch Price Increase In order to continue to meet the nutritional needs of our students, CNS will increase school lunch prices by $0.25. There will be no change to breakfast prices, at this time. Please contact CNS if you have any questions. Effective January, 1 2016 Elementary lunch increases from $3.00 to $3.25 Secondary lunch increased from $3.50 to $3.75 MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION Our Green Elementary students pulled it together under the leadership of Mrs. MacAdams’ students, to write 5,359 letters to raise money for children of Make a Wish Foundation. It was an outstanding effort by the whole school, to show that we care and that we can make a difference in the lives of others. Congratulations Green, and we are so proud of all of the students who wrote letters to Santa. THANK YOU!
