Raider Athletics 2014-15 Newsletter SPRING EDITION Welcome to the latest edition of the Raider Athletics Newsletter. This newsletter is brought to you by the Athletics Office and is meant to give you the latest news and highlights from the spring season. CONGRATULATIONS! Congratulations to the following seniors who had the top GPA in their sport! Baseball – Bryce DuCharme Boys Golf – Mitch Simonet Softball – Savannah Kelley Girls Soccer – Megan Monette Boys Tennis – Noah LeBrun Boys Track – Ryan Reiter Girls Track – Hannah Bennett Maddie Nelson (junior) was voted Athlete of the Week on wissports.net for her outstanding week of jumping/running in Track & Field, the week of March 23rd – 28th! She set both junior class records in long & triple jump and followed that up by breaking the school record in triple jump that same week. Hudson seniors Ryan Reiter and Jon Wilgren have been selected to play in the 2015 Wisconsin Football Coaches Association All-Star Game Saturday, July 18, at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh. The Raiders will play for the North Large team against the South in a 6 p.m. game. The day kicks off with the 8-Man All-Star game at 10 a.m., followed by the Small School game at 2 p.m. Reiter and Wilgren were both named to the 2014 All-Big Rivers Conference 1st Team after helping the Raiders to a record of 8-3 overall, 5-2 in the BRC. Wilgren was also named to the WFCA All-State First Team while Reiter was named All-Region. Longtime Girls Dive Coach Dick Clark was honored at the Annual All-State Swim Banquet and received the Morgan Beyers Excellence in Coaching Award for his numerous years of service to the sport and its athletes. The award was inscribed with the words, “Through his work, Dick was a positive influence and guiding force for hundreds of student-athletes during his diving career in Wisconsin.” Girls Swim Head Coach Kelly Hackbarth received the award on Dick’s behalf. Dick passed away this winter after a brief battle with cancer. Dick has left a legacy in Hudson and he will be greatly missed. College Celebration Day was held on May 21st to celebrate all of our senior athletes who will be going on to continue their sport in college. Parents, faculty, coaches and teammates gathered for refreshments before school to celebrate the next step in the athlete’s lives. They placed 2nd for Division 1 schools with a combined team GPA of 3.62. Congratulations girls…..job well done! Congratulations to the following athletes on the swim team who received WISCA Academic All-State honors: Justin Aherns, Devin Cicha, Kayla Parker, Marissa Smith, Claire VanValkenburg and Natalie Wareham. These individuals are seniors who have achieved a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA, competed on the swim/dive team for at least two years and received at least one letter. Former Hudson Raider boys hockey coach Mike Stoskopf will be inducted into the Wisconsin High School Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame at the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame ceremony Sept. 12 in Eagle River. Mike Stoskopf coached the Hudson High School boys hockey team from 1988-2012 and guided the Raiders to eight Big Rivers Conference championships, seven state tournament appearances, four final fours and two state titles, in 2001 and 2004. He retired as a coach in 2012 with a career record of 348-176-16. We’re proud of you Mike! You’ve left your mark on Hudson Raider Boys Hockey. BASEBALL COACH-Ryan Huppert The boys finished 4th in the BRC with a 6-6 Conference record. They hosted Wisconsin Rapids in the first round of Regional play-offs winning 13-3 sending them to meet the top seeded Stevens Point in the second round of Regionals. Conference awards included: Honorable Mention: Jack Koski, Luke Meyer and Sam Glade. BOYS GOLF COACH-Bill Schaub This year the boys earned the title of BRC Conference Champs! The team won 4 of the 7 team conference matches and placed 2nd in the remaining three. They clinched the Conference title by scoring their best score of the year, which was 308. One highlight of the season was their 9 hole score from Rice Lake. According to head coach Bill Schaub the boy’s score of 138 that day was the best 9 holes score he has seen in his 15 years of coaching. The entire team qualified for Sectionals placing third. Conference honors were as follows: 1st Team: Pat Fisher and Mitch Simonet, 2nd Team: Joey Griese and Michaelem Selissen. SOFTBALL COACH-Jim Revoir The team finished with an overall record of 12 and 12 which included some big wins this year over some talented teams, such as Rosemount, New Life Academy and Centennial. The season was capped off with a big win over Eau Claire Memorial in the first round of playoffs. Conference honors were awarded to the following girls: 1st Team: Jordan Little, Kendra Little, 2nd Team: Lauren Petersen, Emma Steiner and Courtney Moeri. Both the JV and JV2 teams had excellent seasons and the future looks very good for the Hudson High School softball program. GIRLS SOCCER COACH-John Knutson The Hudson Raider women’s soccer team finished Big Rivers Conference play with a 10-1-1 record in 2nd place. Their lone loss on the season was a season split with Eau Claire Memorial and they tied River Falls in a 3-3 draw. The overall season record for the Raiders was 15-2-1. Hudson secured the 4th seed in the WIAA Regional Tournament. Leaders for Raiders this season included: Goal Scoring Leader: Senior Captain & Forward Maggie Koehler with 23 goals, Assist Leader: Senior Captain & Midfielder Kate Sanocki with 19 assists and Shut Outs: Sophomore Goalkeeper Karyn Chukel with 11. Conference honors will be announced at a later date. BOYS TENNIS COACH-Dave Dahl nd This season the boys finished 2 in the BRC Conference with a 14-5 overall record. For the 5th consecutive year, the team finished runner-up in the Sectional. Seven players advanced to the Sectional Meet with junior Mark Johnson advancing to the State Tournament for the 3rd consecutive year. The top doubles team consisting of senior captains Noah LeBrun and Quinn Zacharias, also qualified for State and will be heading to Madison as well. Six athletes received Conference honors including: 1st Team: Mark Johnson, 2nd Team: Noah LeBrun, Quinn Zacharias, Mitch Thompson, Noah Pederson and Christian Willeke. BOYS TRACK COACH-Gerry Uchytil The Boys Track team was Conference Champs! Conference honors we awarded to the following boys: 1st Team: 1600m – Mike Laraia, 110 Hurdles – John Uchytil, 4x200m – Braden Marvin, Parker Vogler, Joe Geissler, Tanner Homme, Pole Vault – John Uchytil, Shot Put & Discus – Ryan Reiter, 2nd Team: 4x800m – George Halunen, Max Ball, Mike Laraia, Erik Peterson, 3200m – Max Ball, 4x400m – Joe Geissler, Braden Marvin, Tanner Homme, Parker Vogler, Honorable Mention: 3200m – George Halunen, 300 Hurdles – John Uchytil. The boys sent ten athletes to State competing in 6 events which included: 4x200, 1600m, Triple Jump, Discus, Pole Vault and 110 Hurdles. GIRLS TRACK COACH-Jami Holum Conference honors were earned by the following girls: 1 Team: 4x200m – Maddie Nelson, Jordan Huber, Lexi LeFever, Kady Kochendorfer, 4x100m(*CONFERENCE RECORD) – Kali Denis, Kady Kochendorfer, Lexi LeFever, Maddie Nelson, 200m - Kady Kochendorfer (FRESHMAN RECORD) Long Jump & Triple Jump (SCHOOL/JUNIOR RECORD) – Maddie Nelson, Honorable Mention: 300 Hurdles – Kady Kochendorfer, High Jump – Maddie Nelson. Maddie Nelson was named the Field Athlete of the Conference Meet. Both the 4x100 and the 4x200 teams were Sectional champs, as well as Maddie Nelson in the Triple Jump. The girls sent eight athletes to the State Tournament competing in 5 events which included: 4x100, 4x200, Triple Jump, Long Jump and Pole Vault. st OTHER NEWS!
