Costumes Many of the costumes can be created using items your family already has or clothes you can find at thrift stores. Have fun creating your costume! Please let Mrs. Franecki or Ms. Meyer know if you have any questions. Costumes are due February 12. We are also looking to borrow the items below: Large, old-fashioned radio Old-fashioned Decca microphone Mini-version of Mike Teevee (perhaps a small cowboy puppet or Woody from Toy Story) Clothes racks for storing costumes Willy Wonka The classic Wonka look involves a purple top hat, purple opera coat (or tuxedo jacket), bottle green pants, and black shoes with spats. Make sure Wonka looks sharp! Wonka will double as the Candy Man. The Candy Man costume is a striped jacket and straw hat. Candy Kids The Candy Kids will wear plain, brightly colored t-shirts and jeans. They will also need a plain, gray hooded sweatshirt. Please bring a colorful, old-fashioned lollipop. Charlie The Bucket family is poor, so neutral pants, a brown Henley shirt, and newsboy hat will work well as costume pieces for Charlie. While the family is impoverished and a bit threadbare, their clothes should not appear dirty. Please add a small touch of red somewhere on Charlie’s costume. Mrs. Bucket Costume Mrs. Bucket in a mid-length brown skirt, blouse, and apron. Mr. Bucket A brown jacket (with a patch here and there), a Henley shirt, and neutral pants will define Mr. Bucket. You can add a hat to his costume for outdoor scenes. Grandma Josephine Granma Josephine will wear red flannel pajamas. She could wear a red flannel nightgown with leggings underneath or red flannel pajama pants with a neutral shirt. A mop cap will help create the look! Grandpa Joe Grandpa Joe wears a Henley shirt and red flannel pajama pants. When he joins Charlie for the tour of the factory he changes into street clothes. This costume will involve neutral pants, a tweed sports coat, and a tweed hat. Please add a small touch of red to his street clothes. Grandma Georgina Granma Georgina will wear blue flannel pajamas. She could wear a blue flannel nightgown with leggings underneath or blue flannel pajama pants with a neutral shirt. A mop cap will help create the look! Grandpa George Grandpa George wears a Henley shirt and blue flannel pajama pants. Add slippers and a nightcap to complete the look! Phineas Trout Dress Phineous in a bright patterned sports jacket over a contrasting shirt and black pants. Or better yet, find a leisure suit at the local thrift store! Augustus Gloop Augustus should burst through his lederhosen. Create the look of lederhosen by finding an image online (through a search like Google Image). Please incorporate forest green into the costume. We suggest using a white shirt, forest green dress shorts, suspenders, high white socks, and Oxford shoes. Mrs. Gloop Mrs. Gloop should incorporate forest green into her costume. A medium length full skirt, peasant blouse, tweed jacket, and felt hat will complete her look. Veruca Salt Veruca is prissy and wealthy, and her costume should reflect her status. A pink jacket and matching sweater set will work nicely. Please accessorize with jewelry and faux fur. Mr. Salt A thrift store purchased pink dress shirt, dress pants, and Oxford shoes will help tie Veruca and Mr. Salt together. Mike Teavee In Roald Dahl’s book, the illustrator creates Mike wearing a vest, cowboy hat, cowboy boots, and jeans. Please incorporate yellow into Mike’s costume. Mrs. Teavee Mrs. Teavee should be dressed like the iconic television mom’s June Cleaver or Donna Reed. Please incorporate yellow into her costume by wearing a yellow dress or skirt. Violet Beauregarde Violet is not a classy gal. Costume her a bit on the gaudy side, with bright, clashing patterns. Please incorporate purple into her costume. Mrs. Beauregarde Mrs. Beauregarde should wear purple to coordinate with Violet. Again, this is not the classiest pair, so go for bright colors and patterns. Ooompa-Loompas The Oompa-Loompas will wear orange, long-sleeved shirts and denim overalls. We will provide tall, striped socks.
