I am happy to announce on behalf of
Mrs. DeLeon, that we have a new
member of our team and family! Mrs.
DeLeon had her baby GIRL on March
9th! Baby and mommy are doing well
and we have sent well wishes on our
school’s behalf. Any questions or
concerns that would normally go to Mrs.
DeLeon should come to me while Mrs.
DeLeon is out on maternity leave. 
Math Month Update!
LearnStorm - All of our students are taking the math challenges across the school! We want to encourage all of
our students to continue to push themselves in these challenges not only at school but also at home. Ask your
student to walk you through the work they are doing on Khan Academy. All of our students are participating in
the competition, LearnStorm, which is taking place across many schools in the Bay Area. Students are able to earn
points and unlock prizes for themselves and our school by practicing their common core math skills on Khan
Academy. The more our students are on Khan, the more they are practicing math skills while earning points to get
some great prizes! It’s a win-win situation, so let’s get on Khan!
MAC Math Tests - The last two weeks, our students all had the opportunity to show grit on a challenging math test
called MAC. The test is comprised of different math tasks, all of which are Common Core aligned. Our Math
teachers will be scoring the tests in order to compare the results with other middle schools across the Bay Area
and determine how we can go from good to great in our math instruction.
Pi Digit Show Down - On March 26th, the annual KIPP Heartwood Digits Pi Competition will take place at a special
Thursday Team and Family. The student champion from each grade level will recite as many digits of Pi as they
can. Last year’s school champion, David Luna (now in 8th grade), recited over 200 digits of Pi to narrowly defeat
upstart Steven Le (now in 6th grade)! All grade level champions then throw a pie at the Math teacher of their
choice! Have your child practice as many digits as they can!
Girls’ Basketball – Shout Outs!
Our Girls’ Basketball team had their first few games and we are proud of their grit and teamwork on the courts. The girls
have been showing a ton of dedication as they prepare for games and the season with regular practices afterschool. We
are excited to see our girls compete and take on the season! We encourage all of our families to come out and cheer on
our Lady Titans, so check out the dates above and come out to show your support!
Progress Reports
Students will be receiving their progress reports on March 20th. Please make sure to take the time to review this report
with your student to get a picture of how your student is currently doing in their classes for the second semester. It is
really important you are informed of their current grades in order to highlight their successes as well as encourage
continuous growth for the year.

Estoy feliz de anunciar de parte de Mrs.
DeLeon, que tenemos un nuevo
miembro a nuestro equipo y familia.
¡Mrs. DeLeon tuvo una NINA el 9 de
marzo! Las dos están bien y les hemos
mandado buenos deseos de parte de
nuestra escuela. Cualquier pregunta que
normalmente es dirigida a Mrs. DeLeon
por favor de dirigirla a Ms. Mena
mientras Mrs. DeLeon está fuera. 
El Mes de Matematicas!
LearnStorm - Todos los estudiantes han estado participando en los retos de matemáticas que tenemos en la
escuela. Queremos que nuestros estudiantes mantengan participación en la escuela y en casa. Pregúntele a su
hijo/a que le demuestre el trabajo que están haciendo en Khan. Todos los alumnos están participando en una
competencia llamada LearnStorm por parte de Khan. Esta competencia es entre muchas escuelas de la área de la
bahía y compiten los alumnos con los minutos que usan este programa para ahorrar puntos. Los puntos son
buenos para poder recibir premios individuales, y para la escuela. Aparte de premios, los estudiantes siguen
practicando las habilidades de matemáticas necesarias para tener éxito. Nadie pierde, así que visite el programa
de Khan y a practicar!
Tarea/Examen de MAC Math - En las últimas dos semanas, nuestros alumnos tuvieron la oportunidad de
demostrar todo lo que han aprendido en las clases de matemáticas en el examen rigoroso de MAC. Este examen
consiste de tareas que son alineados a los nuevos estándares de Common Core. Nuestros maestros van a corregir
estos exámenes y compartir los resultados con otros maestros para poder determinar cómo mejorar nuestra
práctica.
Competencia de Pi - el 26 de marzo tendremos nuestro evento anual de la competencia de Pi. Sera un evento
especial en donde los estudiantes compiten para ver quién puede recitar el máximo número de dígitos de Pi. El
campeón del año pasado, David Luna (8to), recito más de 200 dígitos ganándole a Steven Le (6to) con solo un poco
de numeros. El campeón de cada nivel ganara la oportunidad de tirarle un pastel a la cara al maestro de
matemáticas de preferencia. Asi que a practicar esos digitos.
Basquetbol de Niñas
Nuestro equipo de basquetbol de niñas solo han tenido pocos partidos pero estamos bastante orgullosos de ellas por las
ganas que le han puesto. Nuestras alumnas han demostrado un montón de dedicación mientras se preparan para los
partidos regularmente en las prácticas después de escuela. Estamos emocionados de ver a nuestras alumnas competir en
sus partidos. Tome cuenta de las fechas de partidos para que vayan y apoyen a nuestras Lady Titans!
Reportes de Progreso
Los estudiantes estarán recibiendo sus reportes de progreso el 20 de marzo. Por favor tome tiempo de repasar este
reporte con su hijo/a para poder ver cómo van en el Segundo semestre. Es importante que se mantenga informado de las
calificaciones de su hijo/a para poder reconocer sus logros y continuar de apoyar el crecimiento para el resto del año
escolar.
