Welcome Dr. Esperanza Zendejas, Interim Superintendent, gave the welcome. She shared the following topics with the DEIC: 3% staff raises, schools with academic challenges, building the Rivera High School weight room, receiving additional monies for students from the legislature, open enrollment for the elementary campuses, middle school UIL requirements, and elementary campuses that will be open until 5:30 pm. II. Meeting Called to Order Mr. Harold Emerson, DEIC president, called the meeting to order. III. Recommend approval of minutes of Monday, April 27, 2015 DEIC Meeting Harold Emerson, DEIC president, called for a motion to approve the minutes. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Cynthia Castro, Egly Elementary representative. The second to the motion was made by Eleazar Contreras, Aiken Elementary representative. The minutes passed unanimously. V. Presentations A. Monitoring the 2014 -2015 District Improvement Plan The monitoring of the current district improvement plan’s strategies was presented to the DEIC by the following staff: Goal One – Oscar Cantu, Jr., ELA Specialist Goal Two – Sandra Garcia, ELA Specialist; Sandra Powers, Assistant Administrator for Athletics; Susan Galvan, Science Specialist; and Juan Mendoza, Social Studies Specialist Goal Three – Rachel Ayala, St Comp Administrator Goal Four and Five – Randy Park, Pupil Services Administrator Goal Six – Rosalva Larrasquitu, Parental Involvement Coordinator Goal Seven – Benilda Cervantes, Migrant Coordinator Goal Eight - Robert Gonzales and David Mitchell, Instructional Technology Administrators The presenters identified the strategies that were accomplished, in progress or pending completion by the end of June 2015. B. 2015-2016 Draft District Improvement Plan The draft district improvement plan for the 2015-2016 school year was presented to the DEIC. VI. Action Items A. Request for Approval for Teacher Pull-out Days The following departments requested approval for teacher professional development pull-out days during the 2015-2016 school year: 1. Julie Salinas, Dyslexia/504 Administrator, requested three Dyslexia teacher training requests. Felipe Reyes, Library Services, requested nine trainings for the elementary, middle school and high school library media specialists. 3. Maria V. Gonzales, TLI Grant Administrator, requested four professional development sessions for identified teachers. 4. Juan Mendoza, Social Studies, requested one professional development training for Social Studies teachers in grade 5, 8, and 11. 5. Oscar Cantu, ELA Specialist, requested Writing sessions for English Language Arts teachers. Mr. Cantu requested middle and high school reading and writing trainings. 6. Susan Galvan, Science Specialist, requested professional development sessions for Elementary, Middle School and High School Science teachers. 7. Lolita Emerson, Special Services Administrator, requested training sessions for the Special Services teachers. Harold Emerson, DEIC president, called for a motion to approve the requested teacher professional development days for the 2015 – 2016 year. Eleazar Castro motioned to approve all of the professional development requests. Louie Leal, Keller Elementary representative, seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. VII. Announcements Mr. Hugh Emerson, DEIC president, thanked the DEIC committee for their attendance at the DEIC meetings throughout the year. VIII. Adjournment Harold Emerson, DEIC president, called for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Eleazar Contreras, Aiken Elementary representative, made the motion to adjourn the meeting. Marcos Gonzalez, Cummings Middle School representative, seconded the motion. The DEIC unanimously approved the motion.
