Penny Karen Shenkin 9 Kensington Court Nanuet, New York, 10954 (845) 371-8101 pennykaren@aol.com PENNY KAREN SHENKIN 2014 Penny has spent a lifetime involved both Fine and Performing Arts and in helping special needs children. She taught Fine Arts in both public and private school for some twentyeight years; with twenty-one of these as a special needs art teacher. As an undergraduate, she majored in Musical Theater at SUNY New Paltz where she performed in many shows. Later on, Penny earned an M.S.in Elementary Education from Hunter College. In addition, she continued further graduate studies in Art Therapy at the College of New Rochelle. Over the years, Penny has had many creative endeavors, including creating a children’s puppet theater with puppets of her own design. Penny performed original shows, with her hand- made puppets. Additionally, she spent time pursuing study of black and white photography, and has had her work displayed. She also had a wearable art clothing business. As a retired Art Educator /Art Therapist, Penny now devotes her full energies to working as a painter. Painting is a most recent passion. She has a deep love of working with color in both oil and acrylic paint. Penny also enjoys working in Fiber Arts and you will find many of her creations on her website.
