POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Executive Director – Corporate Development, the IT Director is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and use of technology that will support

Open Door Group operations and strategic initiatives.

The position will work closely with the leadership team, operations and support staff to assess and address user and practice needs. Areas of responsibility include all aspects of the planning, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of Information Systems programs and services including: server administration, backup systems, computer operations, desktop support, Information Centre, business analysis and systems, applications programming, and administration of other related technology systems.

Other areas of responsibility include determining user requirements, recommending strategic and practical solutions, implementation of risk management strategies, and leading organization-wide efforts to improve the effective use of technology.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION

The IT Director is expected to fully understand the mission, goals, and vision of the Open Door Group and be able to identify, develop, source and implement technology and telecommunications solutions.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide Tier 3 support to all ODG IT operations.

Provide management of Tier 1 and Tier 2 support and provide services in Tier 1 and Tier 2 area when required.

Provides insights to I.T. strategy; specifically, work with the senior leadership team to develop strategies and plans to enhance client services, improve user effectiveness, and foster innovation.

Direct the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, telephones, software applications, peripherals and telecommunications equipment.

Identify technology and telecommunication risks, opportunities and solutions and provide expertise and support during systems upgrades, installations, conversions and file maintenance.

Oversee systems development, enhancement and the integration of new systems with existing systems.

Provide knowledge transfer/training and mentorship to other IT staff.

Provide metrics and reports to the senior leadership team on a regular basis and all users of telecommunication and information technology services and systems, as required.

Develop standard operating procedures and best practices, service level agreements, including providing written protocols and guidance to IT staff and to end-users.

Ensure the creation and maintenance of all written documentation, including system and user manuals, license agreements, and documentation of modifications and upgrades.

Keep current with the latest technologies and determine what new technology solutions and implementations will meet business and system requirements.

Support the management of financial aspects of the IT department, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review.

Develop for approval and implement all IT and telecommunication policies and procedures.

Establish best practice standards for key business areas and key performance indicators for information technology and telecommunications.

Manage telecommunications infrastructure and development plans, projects, policies and procedures.

Negotiate and administer vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements as deemed appropriate.

Identify and manage risk specific but not limited to:

○ The storage, backup, and recovery of critical electronic data;

○ The security of sensitive / confidential data ; and,

○ Access and availability to critical information & passwords

Responds to other duties that may develop and are requested by the CEO, Executive Director –

Corporate Development or Executive Director – PMD as required.

SUPERVISION

The IT Director is responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating the IT team and/or any volunteers/interns.

The IT Director has the authority to discipline staff up to and including termination in consultation with the Director of Human Resources and Executive Director - CD.

Develop the IT team to meet the changing needs of users, groups and offices; new projects and technologies; and varying staff strengths.

REPORTING

Reporting out on critic al incidents and resolutions in accordance with Open Door Group’s QA and

CQI framework

Monthly performance and quality assurance reporting to the Executive Director – Corporate

Development and the Executive Director - PMD (Executive and Operational Level reports).

Quarterly key performance indicator(s) reports to CEO, Executive Director – Corporate Development and the Executive Director - PMD.

Yearly Information Technology report to the Board of Directors.

Ensure all business activities and resources are consistent with ODG guidelines and polices.

OTHER

Work collaboratively with other members of the Senior Leadership Team and Board of ODG on committees, proposals, and projects.

Travel within BC will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science/Information Technology

 Unrestricted driver’s license and use of motor vehicle

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 8 years recent relevant work experience, 3 of which must be at Senior Management level.

Demonstrated experience in planning and leading information technology and telecommunications activities and business continuity planning.

Demonstrated experience in planning, leading and organizing diverse operational activities and projects to achieve business goals and objectives.

Experience managing and providing support to user groups and staff across multi-sites provincially.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Ability to provide leadership and influence regarding required information technology and telecommunication policies, processes and obligations.

Excellent communication skills with Senior Managers and staff

Advanced MS Office and database skills

Demonstrated success in the identification, sourcing and implementation of relevant IT and telecommunication solutions

Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
