Literacy Lead Teacher

Responsible to: Executive Headteacher and Head of school
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR
Responsibilities:
The Lead teacher for Literacy will have a key role within the school to provide outstanding leadership and innovation in literacy teaching and learning across all phases. This role will be out of class for at least the first year but will involve modeling outstanding teaching of literacy.
Accountability for leading a core subject:
Identify relevant school improvement issues and complete a strategic action plan in line with the schools annual development priorities
Analyse data and define appropriate improvement targets
Evaluate the impact of all improvement activities on the quality of teaching and learning
To ensure that systems are effective in providing the best possible learning opportunities for all learners.
Provide relevant performance information to stakeholders
Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of practice in the subject annually
Build effective links with other senior leaders both within
Gayhurst and in other settings
Use financial and resource management innovatively and effectively
Impact on educational progress:
Identify appropriate attainment and or achievement targets
Be an outstanding model of best practice
Monitor pupil standards and achievement against annual targets and ensure they are met or exceeded
Monitor planning, curriculum coverage and learning outcomes
Plan and implement strategies where improvement needs are identified

Support teachers in planning appropriate strategies to achieve pupil progress target levels and objectives
Monitor the objectives and targets for specific groups of children e.g. SEN/EAL and promote the importance of raising their achievement and attainment. Encourage pupils’ motivation and enthusiasm in the subject, developing positive responses and high expectations
Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others:
Maintain personal expertise and share this with other teachers
Act as a role model of good classroom practice for other teachers, modelling effective strategies with them
Monitor and evaluate standards of teaching, identifying areas for Improvement
Monitor and evaluate the planning of other teachers, providing constructive and developmental feedback on a regular basis
Ensure that feedback from lesson observation, work scrutiny and analysis of assessment data is appropriately reflected in teachers’ planning
Ensure teachers are clear about the teaching of objectives in lessons, understand the sequence of teaching and learning in the subject and communicate this to pupils
Observe colleagues teaching and provide effective feedback on the effectiveness of their teaching strategies to bring about further improvement
Monitor the deployment of teachers, support staff and other adults to ensure their effective contribution to pupils’ learning
